Satellite Events

We have some satellite event plans in the works and when they're confirmed they'll be posted here. These will be listed geocaching.com events happening in the days leading up to 3IEE and on the day following. Ideas we're working on are guided shoreline exploration, fossil walks, canyon exploration, estuary walks, etc., that visit EarthCache sites. These EC sites could be as far as 60 mins either direction of the Mega location to give people a variety of options to explore the region.

Just want to say that Vancouver Island is geo-heaven....soooo many caches all over the island..... cities, towns, villages, the bush, the seashore, mountains and beautiful valleys too..and the island is a day's drive from one end to the other!. Don't only go for the Mega Cache event or you'll kick yourself for not making more time to explore...but then, you could plan fab return trips too!

Landsharkz mentioned that this is the place to post if you're looking for local guides/info, or people to hike with, and we just wanted to underline that and say, "Sure; get in touch...we're looking forward to welcoming everyone to our lovely island.[:D]

Will you be my JoJo?

My muggle husband and I are coming up from Austin, Texas, and hope to explore your island. I'd love to take you up on your offer for hiking/caching buddies. We'll be staying in Victoria from October 9-12. I'll have a car so I can meet you, if you'd like. Looking forward to hearing from you -

(By the way, my name is "GiGi" because the grand kids call me that, and "JoJo" was my caching dog. She passed away a few years ago, so anyone who caches with me now is my "JoJo". It is (roll eyes here) a highly coveted position to be - my JoJo!) B)

I plan on arriving in Sydney around 11am, and MapQuest says it will take an hour to get to Duncan. I need to secure a campsite at Cowinchan Provincial Park, but I should be ready to do some caching around 1:30-ish. Anyone else looking go caching Friday afternoon/night? I'll contact "Cache Crop" separately.

Assuming you are coming by ferry, yes a generous hour to Duncan and then another 25 mins to Cowichan River Prov park. May I suggest you consider camping at Bamberton Provincial Park. Bamberton Provincial Park

It is just off the #1 highway as you come down off the Malahat. It is a bit further from the actual Mega site but closer to all the satellite events and more caches, though there are lots of nice ones out that way too. Bamberton is a much easier drive to and from everything, esp if you like a clean car. I see that they turn off their water early but they still have pit toilets which is all the Cowichan River campground has anyway. You can always check it out on your way by when you arrive as you will be driving right past it.

Sorry can't offer to go caching with you on Friday as I am busy helping with the Registration event. Hope to see you there. Happy Caching.
