Hello,

Here it's my latest project, the '09 version of the Figueira da Foz Geocoin.

It's coming a bit late, but better late than no coin at all.

There will be produced 150 coins (100 Normal and 50 Limited version).

Not sure about the platings and colors yet, cuz i'm waiting for some samples to choose from.

Most of the geocoins will be sold in the Portuguese Foruns of Geocaching.

But i'll save some geocoins to sell internacionally here on this forum.

I'll announce the time when i'll start a pre-order, once i got the coins myself.. so all of you who might want this coin will be able to try to get one.

Note that it will be a small number of coins.

;)

I'll post the samples soon and, i hope you like this design.

The front of the coin has the city iconic clock tower, that is located on the main beach and some artwork about the sun and nature that shows what turns our city so beautifull.

The backside with some inspiration from Arabic art, its about the sea, the nets from the fishermens, the waves and on its center the official symbol of the city.

Some info about the subject for this coin. The city of Figueira da Foz.

Figueira da Foz, also known as Figueira for short, is a city of the district of Coimbra, in Portugal.

It is located at the mouth of the Mondego river, 40 km west of Coimbra, and sheltered by hills (Serra da Boa Viagem).

The city proper has a population of 46,600 and the municipality has in total 62,601 inhabitants.

It is the second largest city in the district of Coimbra.

It is a coastal city with several beaches, summer and seaport facilities in the Atlantic Ocean coast.

As a city of tourism it plays an important part in the centre of the country.

A zone of legal gambling, one can find in Figueira one of the biggest casinos of the Iberian Peninsula – the Casino Peninsular.

Best regards,

Diogo Sérgio

Nice! I love the detailing, layers & translucents.

But why not Figueira da Foz 2010 instead of 2009? ;) Since the coin is being produced in 2010?

First version was made in 2008, then i started the design of the '09 version, but i couldnt start producing the coin at that time. And i didnt wanted to skip a year so this one i'll be relative to '09.

And the 2010 will probably come late this year ;)

:( if you noticed, that happened also with the Portuguese Geocoin for 2009 (the one with Camões the most famous portuguese poet on the front). This is a problem that arises from the difficulty to get the projects going on smoothly. Specially when we came to the point where we need to get the money doing these ;)

This one is a very personal project from Diogo. A great looking geocoin, a little bit less personal than i would expect, tought. Nevertheless beautiful, and the translucents would create some nice efffects.

There are lots of projects for new geocoins arising here in Portugal every month. Some people are doing them on a personal basis - like the Castelo Branco geocoin a wonderful, white, pure and clean geocoin from Geopate, and some are a little more organized like the KoinAlchemy who've made the Portucale geocoin - a tribute to the city of Porto.

Diogo has been working on this for a while, always keeping secret about how the coin would look like. He just promised that it would be a nice one. And it sure is!! ;)

I confess that I was surprised (very positively) with this design, which is full of details, beautiful shapes, and provides a huge potential for color schemes to make it shine :) Totally different from the 2008 version of the Figueira da Foz geocoin.

I tend to agree with the comment above that 150 coins will not be enough for the demand!

Congratulations, Diogo!

I'm 100% positive that your pictures don't do this coin justice.

The green/gold and the black and white one look really nice and I'm sure much prettier in person.

Congrats!

Yeah, that's true! The coins in person are much prettier. For me the black and white its the most beautiful one.

And by the way, its a big compliment hear those words from you.

Hi

I'm very happy with this result. Congratulations, Diogo (and Roberto :) ). Diogo has done a very good job with this drawing and create a very good looking geocoin. Brilliant, quite different from others that have being made here in Portugal.

He should be proud of his great design artwork. And it will be nice to see the impact around Portuguese collectors (i'm on the queue for a set or two). Specially the Black and White version that is absolutely gorgeous.
