neelusb
Dear All, My username is neelusb, and I would like to request some help to geocaching, as I am a complete beginner. I live in the city of Lusaka, in the African country of Zambia, where only 3 geocaches are present. After these have been found, my friends and I would like to set up our own geocache. Could I please get detailed steps on this, and is it compulsory to label the container with the geocaching.com logo? Also, what are the specifications to the logbook? Thanks greatly in advance, neelusb Quote Link to comment
+BCandMsKitty
Hey .. welcome to the game! Log onto geocaching.com and look at the top left of the screen. You'll see a "Learn" tab. Click there and check out the two links. one is Geocaching 101 That's a good place to start and will answer a lot of your questions. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
+terratin
Welcome to the game! Please read the placement guidelines before submitting a cache. You might not get too many finds but that doesn't matter. Hey, we live in a country where we don't see many finds either. There's one thing I find important when caching in some places: sometimes a bit more information on the cache page might be good! We're currently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and tried to find a cache a few days ago. We walked through a small settlement and forest towards the hiding place, but were stopped by locals who told us there's a police post just a few meters from us, and they might react unpredictably. We tried accessing the hiding place from what seemed to us the only other possible direction and were told the same. Even our taxi driver warned us and so we gave up. A bit more information on how to safely get to the hiding place would have been useful for us. Quote Link to comment

That's so true, but possibly even more so where there's not much of a caching community and the only finders might be a handfull of tourists who have no idea what the local rules are. As a European I have no problem caching anywhere in Europe or North America, but some places, like the example above are certainly a lot different. Quote Link to comment

Thanks greatly in advance, neelusb First, welcome to the game. It's good see interest in geocaching in Africa outside of South Africa. As other suggested, read the guidelines, Geocaching 101, help center pages and continue to ask questions here. I haven't been to Lusaka but I spent a week in Livingstone several years ago. The closest cache was a virtual cache near Victoria Falls on the Zambia side, but I chose to go over to the Zim side and get the traditional cache hidden there. I still don't have a find in Zambia. I'm working on details for a trip to Kenya and Uganda in December and hope to do some caching there. That would bring my total to six different African countries in which I've found a cache. +.Flo.
Hey neelusb! How cool, I've lived in Lusaka for a couple of years as a child/teenager. That was in the 80ies, so I'm sure a lot has changed. You should try to get many people in Lusaka into geocaching and to place cool hides! If Lusaka were to become a geocaching hotspot, I'd perhaps go back there for a visit! Greetings from Germany, Flo Quote Link to comment

There are only three in Lusaka now but the OP started the thread two months and hasn't found or hidden any caches since then. Quote Link to comment
