tinkota
Just wondering if there's a way to add local friends, so you can see which ones they've found in your area. If this is available, I'm assuming I have to upgrade first? Quote Link to comment
+LaughterOnWater
You can share geocaching as a hobby using your refer-a-friend link on facebook or twitter. You can share your geocaching.com user profile with other forum members who are logged in, where they can track your progress. You could also share a link via facebook/twitter via the http://coord.info/ method. Just add the six-character coordinates from geocaching.com for the cache you want to share. You can apparently also send a person a "friend request" when viewing their profile on the forum, though I haven't tried this yet. For your phone's geocachig app, there is no direct method for sharing recent finds from your app to a list of preferred geocaching.com members who might consist of your local friends. Frankly, the app is a little sparse on many fronts, but especially when it comes to social media. Good luck. Chris Quote Link to comment

tinkota
sorry for all the confusion guys. I guess my first question is, if I buy the app, and don't get the premium membership yet, do I even get the favorite points? Then, if I do get my favorite points with the app, will I get favorite points for each of my 10 finds that i found before I bought the app? Quote Link to comment

Then, if I do get my favorite points with the app, will I get favorite points for each of my 10 finds that i found before I bought the app? http://www.geocaching.com/blog/2011/10/geocaching-com-presents-favorites/ As a premium member you earn one favorite to bestow on a cache for every ten caches you have found. Your cache history accumulates favorite points even while you still aren't a premium member. Say I have seven favorite points as a free member, then I upgrade to become a premium member. Then I find three more caches. I can now bestow a favorite point on one of the caches I've previously visited. Favorite points are therefore not something lightly bestowed. You may only become a premium member by paying $30 to upgrade your free membership. You are probably familiar with that from the official free intro app because every time you log a find or attempt to make a pocket query, the app asks -- rather annoyingly -- to upgrade to premium, even if you're already a premium member. It's up in the air whether buying the $10 offical "backcountry" app is worth it. Recent reviews for this app on android make it seem less than stellar, less bang for the buck than you would expect for a paid app. I just got the intro (free) app. You don't need to buy the $10 app to favorite something. You may find it worth your while to try out the demo version of cashesense ($5 upgrade after 30 days) or the open source (free) c:geo before marrying your device to the Geocaching Backcountry ($10). I'm checking out cachesense now, but C:geo looks like it might be a worthy contender because it does a lot of great things the official app can't touch with extender plugins, even off line, and it's free. That said, these apps probably work best for premium members. Good luck. Chris Quote Link to comment
