+beachnut83
Before obtaining my smartphone last December, I did all my Geocaching with my Garmin 76CSx. The accuracy of that device is amazing, but I wanted to be able to get "live" info from the web while hunting. However, my phone is HORRIBLE for Geocaching. Accuracy is so far off, I would never find a cache w/o explicit hints. Does anybody know anything I can do to improve caching on this device? I have it set for High accuracy mode, which uses GPS, Wi-Fi, & mobile networks. Sure would LOVE to be able to get a real GPS device that would connect live to Geocaching on the web... kd006
My Lenovo A-810 works fine and usually within a 2-3 Meter zone. Some phones GPS just are not as good as others. Question why don't you use both? How can having it set to wifi and mobile network "improve" accuracy above "X" number of GPS birds? That alone could be your problem. +Walts Hunting
Worked great using the GS app on my s4and 5 Quote Link to comment
+luvvinbird
Worked great using the GS app on my s4and 5 Ditto on the GS app. My Moto G's accuracy for finding the cache has been great. I've not tested it under heavy cover, though, and I'm still testing it's accuracy to place a cache (so far my eTrex 30's winning in that department). Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
Are you quite sure you have the GPS and location services enabled on your phone? Most of today's smartphones are actually pretty accurate, as long as you don't have the GPS turned off Make sure you also have given the app permission to use your location. Quote Link to comment
+JohnCNA
Big mistake. Turn OFF WiFi and cell tower use. They will only degrade your accuracy compared to GPS. My Samsung GS3 and my wife's iPhone 5 are very accurate. Not quite as accurate as my Garmin, but extremely close. Quote Link to comment

Yes, I leave the GPS on almost all the time anyway, & the app has full permissions. Thanks. Quote Link to comment

I have been using both, as that's the only way I can both navigate & log finds. Just disappointed that I have to deal with both just because my phone can't just handle even urban caches. The phone was set for all location services to be on for highest accuracy, but I will try turning off all except GPS while caching. But if turning off mobile network causes me to not be able to log caches w/o toggling that feature on/off for each cache, that's not gonna help either. Just wish the darn thing would work better. It was the most expensive Motorola phone on the market, so should be the best. Darn it. Quote Link to comment
+Team Dredd
I use a Motorola Razr Maxx and wife use and HTC something or other. We have all turned on and have no problems IF the phone is working right. Don't know what kind of phone you are using but some Motorola phones (including mine) have terrible sensors that always stick and make using compass impossible sometimes. Dumb question but do you have some kind of compass installed to make sure all the axis sensors are not stuck on the phone? Just a thought, when mine are stuck it messes up everything. +kd0bik
I use both. I have an older Garmin Oregon 300 and a Samsung Note 3. If I have data access, I will log my finds as I go via the phone. But I always use the Garmin GPS to navigate to GZ. I've used both the iOS and Android OS versions to navigate to GZ. While they work, I just simply prefer the use of my Garmin GPS. obrien937
I also have a Galaxy Note 3, and I have noticed it is not as accurate as the HTC Thunderbolt I used prior. (The Thunderbolt would usually put me right on top of the cache, the Note only gets me to the general area.) I remember reading somewhere that the Note 3 might have GPS issues, but I can't site the source. I am unaware of a 'fix.' Quote Link to comment
+BlackRose67
I don't think it's been mentioned, but what is the exact model of the phone is and how old is it? My first smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S) was horrid for Geocaching due to a very poor GPS chipset. My current phone (LG Optimus G) has fantastic accuracy and is just as accurate as my eTrex 20 and GPSMAP 62s in most situations. Quote Link to comment
