+ecacholden
We are new to Geocaching and came across a multi-stage cache we wanted to try. The problem was that there was no "start" or "navigate to" option. We downloaded the premium membership thinking that was the problem, but still had no way to navigate. Any thoughts \ help would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
Are you using an app? If so, which one? The first stage of a multi will be the coordinates on the listing. Quote Link to comment

Any thoughts \ help would be appreciated. Thanks! Are you using a gps or a phone/app? Which one? The coordinates at the top of the cache page are the "starting" coordinates. That's where you should find "stage 1". "Stage 1" should contain the coordinates, or instructions on how to obtain the next set of coordinates (numbers on a sign, etc). You need to find the coordinates for the next stage, then input them into your device, then navigate to that stage, and repeat that until you have found the final location. It's only the final location that you log "found it" for, not each stage. Edited July 1, 2014 by Pup Patrol Quote Link to comment
+ecacholden
Thanks for the replies. We are using the iPhone app. My daughter entered the GC code and it said it was invalid. I'm guessing now it may be cap sensitive, and I didn't tell her to try that. Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
It isn't case sensitive. Hmmm... have you shut down and restarted the app since you upgraded your membership? Quote Link to comment

+ecacholden
We did shut down and restart. The icon never changed from intro when we purchased the premium version. It is the Groundspeak version. Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
We still need to know if you are using the FREE Groundspeak Intro app or the PAID ($10) Groundspeak app. Upgrading to Premium membership does not give you the paid app....they are two different purchases. If you are using the Intro app, you cannot enter coordinates for the next stage of a multi cache. It's not designed for that. You can do it with the $10 paid app, though. If you "upgraded" from within the app you didn't purchase the app, you upgraded to Premium membership on the website. Not the same thing and one doesn't get you the other. +TriciaG
The premium membership doesn't upgrade your app. "If you’re a Geocaching Premium Member the intro app offers even more features, like access to all Traditional geocaches regardless of terrain or difficulty, including Premium Member Only Traditional caches." It doesn't provide access to multicaches. Quote Link to comment
+ecacholden
I don't know... I went to the app store and started to download the $10 Groundspeak app. I had to update my credit card info and then I got an email saying Welcome to Geocaching Premium. At this point I figured I had the paid version. Maybe the credit card info was for my Apple account and it kicked me out of the Groundspeak process. I guess the app store would show if I have downloaded the paid app. Would the paid app send any type of credit card confirmation? Quote Link to comment
+ecacholden
So I kind of got hosed for $9.99 and will need to dish out another $9.99 for three months of the functionality I was actually looking for? That's kind of confusing. Oh well. Thank you all for your help. Quote Link to comment

Premium Membership is not necessary for the full app, but you may find you like it. Quote Link to comment

You have to join the club to get access to the range and separately purchase the firearm. There are many many reasons to have a premium membership and the regular app. Edited July 1, 2014 by Walts Hunting Quote Link to comment

The Premium membership is a recurring fee if you choose to renew it....$10 for a 3-month membership or $30 for a year. We've been complaining for months for Groundspeak to make it more clear to intro app users that the $10 "upgrade" from within the app is not an upgrade to the app but is in fact a Premium membership subscription. Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears so far. You're not the first to be confused by it. Not really. You need both. Look at it like you want to shoot. You have to join the club to get access to the range and separately purchase the firearm. There are many many reasons to have a premium membership and the regular app. You don't really need both. Some of the perks of Premium membership are very nice and can add to your enjoyment of the game, but there are many Basic members who cache happily along without it. In the app store, what is the Geocaching paid app called? What is Groundspeak Premium membership called? Quote Link to comment
+TheWanderesss
I'm not sure I get you right but reading your initial post, I think it might be a mystery cache and those often have no "navigate to" option as you need to solve a puzzle first. Maybe it would help if you told us which cache (the cache code) you're talking about? The whole discussion about apps and memberships is irrelevant, while using the smartphone apps, you don't need to pay a premium membership (it only adds some extra features). Quote Link to comment

A large part of the discussion is the fact some, thinking they've paid for the full app, now find themselves with a premium membership instead. Happens often and is relevant. Quote Link to comment
