+gonzogunner
I have been making these and using them for trade items lately. I am a hunter and sport shooter. I shoot in matches as well. these aren't from my match rifles(that brass is to valuable to do this to. so far I have made a few .223's, .22-250's, .243's and .308's. some are brass and some are knuckle casings. i'm using marbles, these and signature pieces in caches. +mrreet
I would personally like those but I am guessing parts of ammunition is getting awfully close to violating the "no ammunition" rule. Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
I can't see that shell casings are dangerous, which is the reasoning behind "no ammo." Quote Link to comment
+gonzogunner
there is not live pieces on the brass. they have been shot and I drilled a hole in the brass so they can't be used again unless somebody is making a small wild cat round. not many know how to do that like I do. +Chief301
I can't see that shell casings are dangerous, which is the reasoning behind "no ammo." You might be rational enough to see that an empty shell casing is harmless, but some hoplophobic cacher (yes, that's the word for a fear of firearms) eventually will get their panties in a wad because of the scary "bullet" they found in a cache. I think most folks will be OK with it, but expect the inevitable criticism. Me, I think it's cool as s***.....I'd collect that in a heartbeat 😜 Might also be a good idea to figure out a way to get your caching handle on there somehow. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Cool trade item. Chief's right, a hoplephobe may get nervous, but more for what it represents... Quote Link to comment
+gonzogunner
way I see it is if they don't like it, don't trade for it. lord knows I don't like the candy wrappers and bottle tops I find in most caches. the difference is no body took the time to make a candy wrapper or bottle top special. I have taken the time to make a spent casing, destroyed it to anybody but a match shooter by drilling a hole in it, added a key chain ring and a big lettered climber thingy to it. I have signature items that have gonzogunner moreland, Kentucky I leave for the better caches. for humdrum caches I leave a key chain. for lower level caches I leave marbles or just sign the log. to be honest I find log only caches to be the lowest level of geocaching. there is no reason there shouldn't be room for trade items and trackables. even pill bottles will handle some trackables. +Chrysalides
I think they're fantastic. Someone asked, a few years ago, if it is OK to leave empty shell casing as trade items. My reply then was that if he wanted to do that, personalize it. This would be a great example. Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
I can't see that shell casings are dangerous, which is the reasoning behind "no ammo." That's not ammo. If someone threw it at you hard enough, and it hit you in the eye, it might hurt, but other than that...harmless. But some uptight person might mistake it for something harmful and freak out about it. And it's hilarious that cachers extol the use of "ammo cans". I've seen ammo cans with their marking left on. Now that kind of thing should raise an alarm or two, from the civilian public who so often stumble upon caches. I used to have a keychain with a shell attached to it. I mean, seriously, there's a hole drilled through it and a set of keys hanging from it. How scary could that be? But I got concerned about having the uneducated public seeing it, so it got retired.
