+ChrisDen
Is it possible to report a cache that is in the incorrect state? Although it is close to the state border there are caches closer to the border that are correctly placed. GC5PM02 Church Micro 7536...Wansford - Methodist shows that it is in UK, East Midlands. It should be in Eastern England. GC3C8YR Red Phone Box 2 Wansford the other one is closer to the state border and is correctly shown as Eastern England Is this due to incorrect polygons? Both show in Cambridgeshire as the county. Edited April 24, 2016 by ChrisDen Quote Link to comment

For something that relies on 'location' it amazes me how many can get it wrong! I use GSAK to reset all the States/County from what is set by the CO. Quote Link to comment
+Corfman Clan
What I've done for a few geocaches I've found that are "in the wrong state", is to log a Needs Maintenance log, requesting the cache owner update the state the cache is in to be the correct state. Quote Link to comment
kanchan
I don't think Groundspeak or the reviewers are or should be responsible for the listed jurisdiction for caches submitted by the COs. It's sometimes very controversial. Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
Even countries are not automatically selected - it's done by the cache owner. I know of at least one cache that was mistakenly published as being in the country of Georgia, rather than the US state. Also, top of monaco, which claims to be Monaco's first cache, is and always has been in France, a mile outside the Monaco border. Quote Link to comment
+Pond Bird
I know a cache that is in Colorado but is labled as "New York" this came in my search when I put in New York state it showed one in Colorado. Another instance of geographically incorrect. WOW! Quote Link to comment

Another instance of geographically incorrect. WOW! The cache you are referring to is a traveling cache. It moves from place to place. It started in New York so that is what the cache page says for the state. But it is currently in Colorado with the intention of it going to GeoWoodstock in July. These caches are no longer allowed by Geocaching HQ, but this one is grandfathered in. GC7572 Quote Link to comment

GC7572 If its a traveling cache then that means the owner can move to whatever state (even country) they wanted to if it's to stay in Colorado, it should be listed as Colorado, since it hasn't been in NY recently. Once the cache is published you cannot change the state listed on the cache page. The coordinates for that cache are updated when the cache is moved. That is what is important. Quote Link to comment

I wonder if it will ever make its way back to NY. I think I'd like to find the moving cache. Quote Link to comment
+The A-Team
Once the cache is published you cannot change the state listed on the cache page. You can change both the country and state after a cache is published. I just tried it on one of my caches, and it worked just fine. Quote Link to comment

How did you get to that? I see it now. I must have missed it before. Thanks Edited April 26, 2016 by Sherminator18 Quote Link to comment

The owner of that cache lives in New York. He does not move with the cache. Since I last saw it at Block Party, it has been to at least Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Nebraska and across the border into Mexico. Eventually that cache is going to make its way back to NY. Quote Link to comment
+redsox_mark
Having the wrong "state" is very common in the UK (where the OP is). That is because these "states" are not real states (like a US state, Canadian Province, or German Bundesländer.) The "states" are something specific to geocaching. There is a map but this is not widely known. So while the CO will know if the cache is in England or Scotland, they might think it is in "South West England" when actually it should be "Southern England". For the most part, reviewers (and cachers in general) don't care much about this unless the "state" is clearly way wrong. But I did have one reviewer request that I change the "state" of one of mine from "South West England" to "Southern England". My home location is "South West England", but the cache in question (4 miles from my home) was just over the border into a different county which mapped to a different state. The funny thing is that the 100 closest caches to mine in that area all had the wrong state; only mine was "correct" (once I made the requested change)! +Lord Cadogan
What can be done with caches where the CO seems have quit? I am sure there are some people that have heard of the one that is listed in NC and really is in SC. Quote Link to comment

If the CO seems to have quit, the state should probably be changed to "Archived". Quote Link to comment
