Urgent: Cache needs approval

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I planted my first cache last week Thursday, it has yet to be reviewed. I wasn't familiar with the approval process. I am taking a group of cub scouts out to find local geocaches. I was going to end with the new cache which is a larger cache. It contains several smaller geocaches and trackables for them to take home. The scouts were going to leave trinkets and trackables. Could someone take a look at the cache and review and approve it? The event starts in 5 hours.

The name of the cache is called "Scout it out" The cordinates are My link. or https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6GNT6_scout-it-out

I am sorry for asking for an exception; I know I am not a special snowflake. I made a mistake and thought the process would have been quicker. Any help would make the day go easier and help about 10 scouts have a better introduction to Geocaching.

Kind Regards,

JJ

Why not just give them the coordinates to the cache? You could teach them to use a GPS unit and not depend on a phone app and make it a learning experience. :)

Hi,

The cache is ready to be reviewed. All of us dad's were planning on using the geocache app. We do not have GPS units, this is going to be most of our first time geocaching. I tried to place the GC code in the geocaching app and it would not guide us to the location.

The scouts are 8 years old, I think anything beyond the geocaching app is going to be over the kids heads.

Try pulling up the cache page on your phone via your account, that should allow "you" to navigate to the cache.

Sorry, but I can't imagine a group of eight year olds with their own smart phones that could not be taught to program a GPS or use one of the GPS apps for a smart phone.

Your cache is properly positioned for review.

It's hidden in an area where a permit is required from the Milwaukee County Parks Department. Since your submission doesn't mention anything about permission, I am guessing that this may be a contributing factor to the delay in reviewing your cache. But that's just a guess. It's also possible that your reviewer took a geocaching roadtrip for a few days. I am sure you will hear from someone soon, and within the seven-day service goal for an initial review.

Given there is lots of nice swag in the cache, for designated people, I'd probably run it as a private cache for your cubs, then list it on the site afterwards - otherwise the kids might end up with McDonalds toys to take home....

Yes, a very good idea. I also learned from Dame Deco's input on setting the coordinates as a target on another listing on the app. :)

Don't underestimate the kid's and their abilities.

I work with 1st and 2nd Grade Girl Scouts that use the GPS's just fine after a few minutes instructions. We use the yellow Garmin's (I can never remember the model since I only do these programs once or twice a year).

Yup, I second (third?) kids using GPSrs. I understand if you just don't have one and using the app is easier for you. But I've helped facilitate and teach classes and outings for hundreds of kids over the years, starting from about eight years old and up. They have no problem using a GPSr, in fact they think it's pretty cool to use a gadget like that.

Yes in fact the reviewer was otherwise detained. This has now been addressed and well within the 7 day review window. I appreciate all the help offered here on the boards.

Regarding GPS units, I would suggest asking your local scout council. They may have loaner GPS units. I'm a 4-H leader, and we have about 20 units available for loan to all of the 4-H groups in the state. We got our via a grant, they didn't cost us anything.

I think the new Scout's motto is "Is there an App for that?".
