Rubbing my nipples whilst GeoCaching...

Recommended Posts

I've got a Garmin Venture HC. Anyone with anything similar will be familiar with the annoyance of rubbing the little 'nipple' joystick/button whilst the unit in in your pocket or bag.

After 1/2 hour of having it stowed in your pocket, you find you have selected all sorts of options and settings without meaning too.

The clever thing for Garmin to do would be to have a lockable feature, whereby one presses two buttons simultaneously to lock/unlock the unit before/after placing it in your pocket.

Does such a feature exist? How can we encourage Garmin to add one to a software update? Does anyone know a clever way that I can stop rubbing my nipples whilst I'm GeoCaching? :)

Something completly different came to mind, .......oh........never mind.

I use a lanyard around my neck. I really like the Geocaching one on the Groundspeak website. My 60CSx was in my jacket pocket when I lost it. I had left the lanyard at home. Now it is one of the must have items.

Garmin did not add a "Key lock" to the eTrex or GPSmap series :)

Here is my best advice:

Use the game named "Virtua Maze" as key lock. When you enter this the GPS is locked and cannot add any waypoints or change any system settings. And the GPS is still tracking as normal.

To exit this game press: MENU-MENU.

Hi Sam,

I am guessing while the unit is in your pocket, you are really not using it.

So unless you really need the trackback log, or are actually trying to log a track, I would suggest you turn the unit off, until you take it from your pocket. I am thinking it isnt getting a great signal while being stored in your pocket anyway.

There are also cases out there for that unit to wear on your belt, backpack, ect. And they clear the rocker stick.

I hope this somehow helps your rocker stick problem.

My Oregon has got a "input lock" feature which is nice, even if I prefer carrying the unit around my neck most of the time. I drilled a couple of tiny holes in the lower end of the plastic snap-on thingy on the back cover and attached a sturdy camera lanyard. That way the gps falls into my hand in the correct position without any twiddling. A hard camera case is also attached while the gps is hanging around my neck which protects it from whatever it needs protecting from. Works like a dream!

The Oregon has a screen lock which means key lock as it is touchscreen

Thanks for adding the link and pic. This site is the worst that I've dealt with, for computer idiots like me that I've seen to try to add links or pics.

Are you using Reply, or just the simple Fast Reply, which doesn't have a toolbar?

huh, of course it does:

If you have a legitimate question or issue then why not give your thread a legitimate title? This one reeks of innuendo and appears to me as nothing more than an appeal for attention.

It irrates teh heck out of me when I give my friend my gps and she sticks it in her pocket!

When I have to pocket mine, when it is off, I put it in the pocket of my backpack specially made for electronic stuff.

I have the case for mine and clip it to a packstrap or waistband or something. I wish they made the case in a differant color than black, I have orange and glowcord on it for visibilty.

LOOOOOOL or CRYYYYY

THIS is just... I bought Etrex 20 yesterday, found out this annoying feature.. Not that it would matter for Geocaching, but for backpacking use where this device will be used it really a major drawback..

How on earth they still have no keylocks on their device :-O .. After years they should be aware such need, shows just that they do not care.

I had an eTrex 30 for two years and very rarely had this happen. When not looking at it I would put it in a shirt pocket, screen facing in. I also had the belt clip and would clip it to the backpack or slingpack straps on my chest. I never actually placed it on my belt. When I tried it with a neck lanyard, it would swing back and forth and occasionally activate things. So I stuck to the Pocket or clip after that.
