Upgrade Reccomendation from eXplorist GC

Recommended Posts

Currently using a Garmin eXplorist GC.

This unit has served me well enough since I bought it but I am looking to upgrade to a new unit.

I use the unit primarily on vacations/road trips in the lower 48 but I also plan on using it internationally now that I am retired.

Use the unit 10-15 times per year.

I've taken a look at the GPS buying guide on here and several other sites but I can't seem to filter results based on what features I am looking for.

I am seeking suggestions on a new GPS unit that has the following features

1) Large color screen (something around 4 inches or more)

2) High sensitivity receiver for more precise location tracking (current unit really fails in this area, most readings are off by 10-25ft in open spaces)

3) Touchscreen if possible

4) Removable batteries/rechargeable batteries

5) Ability for direct and easy plug and play interfacing with geocaching.com (like my current unit has)

6) Expandable memory slot

7) Preloaded US maps or a manufacturer who provides good quality map updates for free/very low price

I don't mind spending somewhere around $300-$400 or so for most of those above features, but if I can get a new unit for sub $300 with a good amount of those features I would like that.

Thanks for the input.

Montana meets all those with the largest screen garmin makes. With regards to number 2 you aren't going to get much better than that. Plus remember if the players device isn't as accurate as yours the error week be on that side.

Basic science says that no total measurement is any more accurate than the least accurate device used.
