tullboy
Went for our 1st geocaching trip today in the pouring rain!! . We didn't find cache but had a great if wet walk. Using Android phone & the cache we wanted to try is on the computer map but not on phone app map why is this? Wanted to put a message on the 'log' but noticed there are acronyms like TFTC on site What does this & others mean? Theres probably loads more questions I will have in the future, so many thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Much info on the Help Center and Geocaching 101. As a cache owner, I'd like to have folks know a little of what they're doing before/when accessing caches in the pouring rain... Quote Link to comment

Using Android phone & the cache we wanted to try is on the computer map but not on phone app map why is this? Are you using the free, intro app? It's very limited as to what caches it shows you as it is meant to be an introduction to geocaching. There is a paid app that does more. Geocaching with Android Intro http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=101'>http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=101 Great question! Your ability to view and find geocaches in the Geocaching Intro app will vary by your Basic or Premium Membership status. If you are a Basic Member, you will see three recommended and three nearby geocaches at any given time. The geocaches you are able to view will change as you move locations. You will also be able to see geocaches that you own or that you have previously found (if they are traditional geocaches). As a Premium Member, you will still receive three recommended geocaches, and you will also be able to see all traditional geocaches near your current location. You will not be able to see other geocache types (e.g. multi-caches, puzzles, etc.). 4.2. What is the difference between the Geocaching Intro app for Android, the Pro app, and Geocaching Premium? http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=50'>http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=504'>http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=50'>http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=504 Wanted to put a message on the 'log' but noticed there are acronyms like TFTC on site What does this & others mean? "TFTC" means "thanks for the cache". Other acronyms are explained here: 6.3. tullboy
Thank you very much Pup Patrol . Your reply was very helpful & speedy. The link to the terminology is great. Think I will look into the membership if its not to pricey, Again thanks Nancycle thanks for the reply. yes using the free app as it was first go & didn't want to waste money if the family didn't seem enjoy it. Think I might upgrade Quote Link to comment

Think I might upgrade If you upgrade via the app, be VERY careful you get the Paid app, and NOT Premium Membership! Easier to go via the store, to be certain. Quote Link to comment

Think I might upgrade No, NOT Premium membership....there is a $10 paid version of the App, and there is the $30/year Premium membership on Geocaching.com. They are two separate purchases and one does not get you the other. I only want to emphasize this point because we continue to get confused new players on these forums who are rightfully irritated that they paid for an "upgrade" thinking they would get the full function app and wind up with a Premium membership they didn't really want and still stuck with the intro app. If you do want to purchase the app, go to the Android marketplace (or whatever it's called) and search for it there....do NOT choose the "upgrade" option in the app. Quote Link to comment

Also, to further confuse the issue, if you try to upgrade to the paid app from within the free app (as you are being warned NOT to do) there is an optional 3 month Premium Membership for $10. This is NOT the same as the $10 paid app. You may very well want to get the Premium Membership eventually, but for now, the paid app will give you much better value for your $10.
