I have my GPS for a week. Updated everything that can be updated. Install also basecamp and updated everything.

I'm not a premium member for geochaching, but do know the website.

I was playing around with my GPS, basecamp and geochaching.com website. I must did something wrong, but I cant find the preloaded caches on my gps (it was theree at the beginning) and cant send any caches form the website to my GPS (could do that in the beginning). While playing around,

I've read a lot on the website, but cant find any help that was succesfull.

I use Win10 64bit ob my laptop and Chrome as webbrowser.

1) How can I get the preloaded caches back?

* I reset all the settings on the GPS.

2) What can I do to fix the sending of caches fro geocaching.com to my GPS?

Regards

I suggest contacting Garmin customer support. They know Basecamp and the eTrex Touch 35, so they'll know what might have happened and how to fix it.

I have an eTrex Touch 35 as well. When I connect it via USB to my computer (running Windows 10), and use Windows Explorer to view its file contents (NOT a browser), I've found that the preloaded caches reside in a GPX file in the /Garmin/GPX directory. I haven't my GPSr with me at the moment, but I thought the filename was something like garmin.gpx

I suspect that Basecamp probably deleted the file prior to transferring its own GPX file containing geocache data.

I suggest that after you re-establish your preloaded .gpx file, you copy it to your computer so that you have a backup.

That way you can re-establish it any time something else overwrites it.

As far as the sending of caches to your GPS, I suggest checking out this forum thread:

This concerns a Garmin eTrex 30, but the procedure and problems are basically the same.

You really don't want them back. Preloaded caches are nothing but an ill-conceived marketing gimmick. The caches were loaded at the factory when your device was built, which could have been a year or more ago. Since then, caches may have been disabled, archived, moved, or changed in countless different ways. There may also be new caches hidden on the way to a preloaded cache that you could walk right by because you didn't realize it was there.

You'll be much better off by starting fresh. Load caches in the areas you're interested in, and you'll know that the caches you seek are active and up-to-date.

The eTrex Touch prelaoded Geocaches are in a file named preload.ggz, in the /Garmin/GGZ/ directory on the GPSr. If this file is no longer present, it has likely been deleted unintentionally. As others have stated, this file is quite stale and largely useless. Loading fresh geocache data from geocaching.com is the best practice here. The easiest way to accomplish this task is to use pocket queries, which allow you to load up to 1000 geocaches at a time by copying a single GPX file to the /Garmin/GPX/ directory on your eTrex Touch. Of course, you can still load each geocache individually from the geocache listing page, if you so desire.
