+janbso
I wonder if it is possible to add a video I have made and have on my YouTube account. What code do I put into the page? Quote Link to comment
+niraD
You can link to YouTube videos in a cache description, but you can't embed them. Quote Link to comment
+Touchstone
I'm not sure video's is possible, but you could put a link on the page to the host site. Related Help Center article: HTML in Geocache Descriptions Quote Link to comment
+janbso
Thank you both. I then did a link to my Youtube account, but I think this is a shame in 2015 that there is not possible to have embedded video. Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
The reason you can't embed anything like audio or video is because every time the question is raised there is a large, loud vocal majority of members who say NO WAY. We do not want to burden our ears or bandwith with unnecessary fluff. So what you think is a shame is the will of the community. Quote Link to comment
+K13
How would my Oregon 450 GPSr deal with your embedded video? How much extra data would it add to a download of the cache description? I think it's a shame that people don't see all the real problems when they have an idea that pushes the possibilities. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Wouldn't a Reviewer then have to "approve" content? I was told Reviewers don't approve, they publish. Family-friendly site and someone's blaring something obscene in the background... Quote Link to comment

+JohnCNA
Thank you both. I then did a link to my Youtube account, but I think this is a shame in 2015 that there is not possible to have embedded video. There is a sort of work-around to this. Convert your video into an animated GIF. As was done on This Cache. I do not think it would be appropriate to imbed a large file, though. That would be quite burdensome for phone app users, and of course useless for those using handheld GPSr's. Quote Link to comment
+whereisitnow!
I agree it's a shame we can't do this. I don't know who this resounding population is, but I have never been asked if I would like this feature or not, and neither has anyone I know. As long as you don't allow autostart I can't see the problem. I'm imagining men with long white beards and suspenders carrying their unix machines around saying bah humbug. A few years ago I did a poll of our 200 user local group as to how many used a GPS vs a phone. The vast majority used GPS but almost everyone used a GPS to hide with. This year the same poll cam back with GPS users well below 10% and almost everyone switching from GPS to phone apps (GPS Averaging). When I speak of GPS above I'm talking about handheld GPS units like my 62s that now sits in a box. Not the GPS function of phone apps. Please put me in what I believe the real resounding thinks. I'd love to have this option available. Edited November 16, 2015 by whereisitnow! Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
I don't know who this resounding population is... Pretty much anyone who would need to depend upon an embedded video to help them find the cache. There are many people who rarely visit the web site to look at cache pages, and instead, depend upon what is sent in the *.gpx file to their preferred caching device. Without prior warning that they would need to have inspected the online page before the visit, they'd be SOL in the field. At a minimum, and with a smart phone, they MIGHT be able to view the video using the phone's browser -- IF it supported the video format used, etc etc etc. Quote Link to comment
+EJKPBR
Instead of a gif, can I use a flash video? I want to make a puzzle/mystery that uses a video with audio as a clue. A gif won't work because you can't add audio to a gif. Quote Link to comment

A gif won't work because you can't add audio to a gif. All the Listings I've seen that utilize flash (mostly Puzzles), have them hosted offsite. My guess is the file type is not supported, and probably not something to be supported in the immediate future. Quote Link to comment
+EJKPBR
Maybe I'll just have to try and not use sound. Major bummer Quote Link to comment

Maybe because everytime someone suggests it there is a huge reaction from the general community saying NO NO NO never. They are just giving the community what they have clearly want. The same response comes when someone wants audio. Quote Link to comment

Major bummer As one of the moderators and a reviewer posted earlier you can always put a link on cache page with a link to a video on Youtube. I just can't embed the video on the cache page itself. There are lots of other sites which allow free uploading for videos as well. I would avoid using Flash though. Quote Link to comment
