Explorist GC and cache finds

Recommended Posts

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

My geocaching account shows I have 74 finds and one cache owned. My Magellan Explorist GC today says I have 75 finds.....why are they different? Am I missing something obvious here, but its just I got an award on the magellan today for 75 finds but I know that I only had 74.

I've re run the PQ of my finds, and popped it onto the magellan, deleting the old one. So, I assume it's something to do with my cache that I own and only just recently placed.

Any ideas?

It's a GPS, not a magic wand. It's not connected to the internet or anything, so you have to mark the caches as found on the website. It's like me putting the caches on paper-just because I mark them as found on the paper doesn't mean it will be found on the website. That also means if you have a find on the website, and don't mark it as found on the GPS, it won't show up as found. Far as I'm aware, no GPS will tell you if you found a cache unless you mark it as such on the GPS.

Now I'm, not sure, but you may be able to upload your logs from the GC to the website, but I've never done that with mine.

Thanks, I'm aware of it's limitations. I ran the "my finds" PQ and it shows 74 finds but the GPS itself says 75 in the stats. I assume that my recently placed cache is causing the discrepancy, so am asking if anyone has come across this themselves.

Actually, thinking about this.....I did have a glitch on the unit where I logged a find out in the field but it didn't seem to work, so did it again. When I got home and uploaded my field notes, I had a duplicate entry, of which I deleted one. So, would it be possible that my account on geocaching.com is correct as I deleted the duplicate, but the GPS is a very simple counter and has recorded that duplicate as an "extra" find, despite me correctly adding the "my finds" PQ?
