Strange or paramormal experiences on the trail

Today I was out on the Yellow trail at Sweetwater Creek State Park to get stage 1 of a multi near the collapsed bridge. As it turned out, I had to go back because I got the wrong information the first trip. Keep in mind that the Yellow trail is not used much anymore because it used to go over the bridge and do a long loop on the East side of the creek. I saw no one out there on either excursion out that trail today.

After about 10 minutes of searching the GZ on my second trip and realizing there was a good chance that it had been removed due to construction, I looked up the road that leads down to the remains of the bridge and noticed what looked a person about 100 yards up the road just standing there. No one is supposed to be on that road unless they are park personnel or East Point PD (they have a firing range on that road). It was just me and who/whatever was up the road. I'm not one to get spooked easily, but this figure looked completely black, like a silhouette. No colored clothes, discernible features, or anything. After standing there looking at the figure for a few seconds, I decided that discretion was the better part of valor and started back up the Yellow trail towards the Visitor's Center.

As I stepped into the woods, I stopped for a second and looked back up the road. The figure was still standing there absolutely motionless. I continued for about 50 yards up the trail and looked back to see what was going on. The figure was no where in sight at this point. I was looking over my shoulder all the way to the intersection with the Red trail, but never saw the figure again.

As I said before, I'm not one to be creeped out but this incident sent chills up my spine. The fact that the figure looked like a silhouette and just stood there motionless was a bit eerie for my taste.

Has anyone else had any strange things happen out on the trail?

I've not had any paranormal experiences while Geocaching. I did have a creepy feeling at this cache http://coord.info/GC1BHVG but that probably came from the story and being their at night on Friday the 13th.

I have had paranormal experiences in previous homes. The house I lived in high school was haunted. The VCR would turn on (even unplugged), creepy feelings especially around my room. I once saw a full bodied apparition in the hall go from the bathroom to the bedroom. It was just like you described. Darker then the darkness in the hallway, human silhouette, no features, and it floated/glided more than walked.

After college I lived in an apartment, I had never had an experience or felt a spirit presence. But one night I woke up and there was a man standing at the foot of my bed. It was dark but I could see details of overalls, a plaid shirt, and some facial details. I grabbed the lamp near me bad and pulled it towards me. I did this so hard the shade broke. By the time I swung back around and turned the lamp on he was gone. After calming down and thinking I realized it looked a lot like my grandfather when he was younger.

Nice creepy stories! I like! I haven't had anything weird happen while out caching, and I'm glad, because I'm normally out there alone.

I had plenty of "awareness during sleep" episodes when I was a child and teen, which were terrifying enough for me. Even though there's now a physiological explanation for whole phenomenon, I'll never forget the overwhelming feeling that an evil presence was in the room with me, trying to kill me (I could point to the spot where it was standing). I don't ever care to ever experience that again, even if it was just my imagination run wild.

I was caching in downtown Seattle last month with three friends.

The cache was on the far side of the parking lot we parked next to. It was a strange lot that was very deep. You had to drive DOWN into it. The cache was most likely on the far side, on the other side of the fence, but since there were four of us I figured we might as well have our bases covered, and I went through the lot, in case it was on the closer side of the fence.

As soon as I got into the lot I regretted it.

There was a real intense feeling there of shock and horror. It was like feeling an old scream. It was like feeling death.

I did not like walking through that area at all, but I ignored my feelings, steeled myself, and headed over to where my GPS was pointed.

I had not read the cache page at that point, but only looked at my GPS with the coords that were downloaded through the pocket query.

The hint read something about "the cross". I found the cross on the far side of the lot. It was a little wooden hand-made thing that told me nothing about the alarm bells going off in my head. By now my friends had found the cache up above on the sidewalk on the other side of the fence, so I was more than happy to back track fast out of there.

Later, when logging the caches the next day, I turned to the cache page for the first time.

It told the story of that lot.

There used to be an old building there that burned down. In the fire, four firefighters went into the building to fight the fire, and fell through the floor and died.

I felt like I had heard their screams.

I'm glad we only find each cache once. I won't go back again.

I often find myself caching around the Green River or other areas where it is likely that the Green River Killer dumped bodies.

I've often found myself in places that give a really eerie feeling. There is one place I was sure I was being watched while I cached, although there was no one around, and it did not feel like an alive human was watching me. I got out of there as fast as I could.

The Green River Killer killed over 71 women in the 80's and 90's. The final total is not known. He himself said he had lost count. It is probable there are still many bodies out there that have not been found.

He was convicted of 48 of the murders, getting 48 life sentences, plus 480 years for tampering with evidence (he tried to cover up the murders). These sentences are to be carried out consecutively.

If you believe in Karma, you've got to wonder what this guy's next life is going to be like.

In the meantime, I don't go digging through the plants much in these areas.

We were there back in February. The place is loaded with history and has had its share of tragedy. We were trying to grab a late afternoon cache by coming down the yellow trail on the east side of the park (we didn't know the bridge was washed out). With no bridge, we decided to hike down and get a view of the factory ruins before heading back. Night started to fall fast as we headed back to the car. Can't say we saw anything supernatural, but the conditions sure felt right, if that's possible.

That park is a cool place.

I started geocaching solo back in July of this year (2014). Many of my geo hunts have led me to desolate woods and battlefields. I have never really felt scared to go at them alone until yesterday. I live in Virginia, so wherever you go, you are bound to find some caches in pretty isolated historical places. For those that live in Chesterfield County, Virginia know what I am talking about. I have not slept all night because of what happened to me yesterday. Was my mind playing tricks on me? Was it matrixing of what I was seeing?

While I was out geocaching in Pocahontas State Park, I decided to take the Beaver Lake Trail to get the other three caches. On my way to the first cache, I bypassed a slight hill to my right and some tall trees. This was about 5:00 p.m. and the sun was still out and not setting yet. Yet the woods was sort of dark due to the branches and leaves covering that particular area. What caught my fancy was this huge tree (I want to say maple?) that had a huge hollow hole at the base of it. More like an oval shaped hollow opening. I thought to myself, "Oh, that's creepy!" and I continued on to find the other caches. Keep in mind, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary other than that tree.

After finding the caches, I went back the same way I came in (passing that creepy tree. And for some reason, as I approached the creepy tree, my eyes diverted towards it. What caught my eye was how darker the hollowed tree was. Still I thought, "TOO CREEPY!!" But then, as I was walking directly in front of it, I noticed a small white round face and round head (the size of a shrunken head that you see in Ripley's believe it or not museums).. the face was shaped like an owl's face, pure white as if it was wearing white makeup (the kind you can buy at Halloween and put it on the kids faces to make them look more pale). It had two black eyes. At first I thought, it must be part of the tree base. But it couldn't have because I remembered it was all dark when I walked by it the first time. I did the rubber necking thing as I walked beyond it, and this creepy thing slowly turned it's head and looked in my direction. This thing must have been 5' at the most wearing a dark like cape. It was camouflaged with the tree itself. But what stood out was it's white head and black eyes. I still can't get it out of my head. I think I'm going to internet research this further. It definitely was no ghost apparition. I saw it plain as day and it was solid!

Suddenly, my sixth sense told me, "Keep moving.. FASTER!!!" I looked away and walked quicker than normal. And I never looked back. I didn't want to run nor look back because if I did, I felt this thing may have decided to follow me. I walked around the bend of that trail and few yards further when I felt safe enough to walk a normal pace. I hurried back up the trail and back to the nature center. I won't go in that area of the park now. For those that haven't been to Beaver Lake Trail and want to see that hollowed out tree, go for it.

clayshooter, look up shadow people. ihave had several encounters in my life with the paranormal. mainly in my youth and teen years. my grandmother was full blooded Cherokee, and she used to have the same encounters.

not to long ago I was coming home from work and desided to pick up a few caches. on was in a old grave yard. when I got there and got out to search the hair on the back of my neck started standing up. I hadn't been looking at the time so when I looked at my watch it was 3:00am(the true witching hour). I just got back in my car and came back the next morning. I have learned that when something feels wrong to get away.

I'm out in the woods all the time. I live in Shelby County, Tennessee. Since most of the trees produce leaves, rather than needles, there is a lot of undergrowth. This produces a lot for the eyes to interpret. It is like staring at realistic camouflage from the ground up. After looking around into the woods for so long at the same pattern, your eyes begin to hallucinate. Basically, your eyes try separating negative and positive space in order for you to see better. I think these shadow people are the eyes trying to separate a repetitive pattern into some familiar. It can drive you absolutely mad! I've heard the same thing happens in deserts, at sea, and in the artic.

A few months ago, I was setting up a huge multicache in an urban, undeveloped park. We have many of these around here. The government sets this land aside and nobody owns it. These are basically miles of woods within urban areas. There are no trails and the litter disappears within 50 feet of stepping into them. Anyway, I spent an hour or so at a time over the course of several days taking readings, setting up containers, etc. One time, the woods started getting to me. I could have sworn there was somebody out there with me. The type of demographic that saw me park would not likely follow me out into the woods. If I would turn my head, I could see something duck behind a tree quickly. Soon, it felt like the forest was swallowing me whole. I swear I heard voices, could hear footsteps, and feel the presence of others. I never published that cache and I will not go into that park again.

When people tell me they have strange experiences in the woods, I believe them. I know the power of the human mind and what can manifest from it.

I was going to say 'does hallucinating count?'

I agree, your mind can play tricks on you, especially when you spend a considerable amount of time alone. There's this one spot in a forest near me that makes me nervous everytime I going past it. The first time I went there, I saw a red shirt hanging in the trees. Thankfully I haven't had to go there too much, however, everytime I do, I keep thinking there's someone hiding in the bushes with a large knife, but there never is.:huh:

It sounds a lot like a barn owl. Any chance you saw a barn owl poking it's head out of the hole in the tree?
