Would You Like To Host A Cloo Game In Your Area?

I have a fun little GPS related game that I've modified so that it can be set up practically anywhere. Right now, it's only in three cities in Utah. I'd like to see that change.

Check out the game page: CLOO Game Page

Would you like to Host a CLOO Game in your area? Check out this page that describes what would be required to make it happen:

Setting Up a CLOO Game

If you have any questions, just email me.

Question:

When you say the washers have to be in "the area" -- how far away are you talking?

Also, when submitting the cache, does each washer count as a waypoint so that you have to abide by the 500 or so ft guideline.

Am pretty interested in setting this up here in Nashville after the holiday and possibly in Louisiana...

My Cloo game is just about ready to go online. Thanks Sir Gerald! My cloos will all be in existing caches, so no new spots needed. Also, that is fewer spots to maintain. I will have a small cache with worksheets in it if someone wants them at the starting point, or they can print out the waypoints and just head out. The final code word gets you coords to a final cache that will have some great stuff, including a First To Find coin.

Cloos are spread out across Pike County Ohio. Maybe 20+ miles between the farthest apart? I don't expect to get many that finish this one, but the ones that do should have a good time.

All that's left to do is hike my sorry butt out through the snow and put the washers in the caches.

Oh, and all of my suspects are local cachers!

Argh! The local reviewer won't approve my Cloo game! He says it violates the guidelines because you have to send an email to get the coordinates for the final. BUT there has to be a final, otherwise it is a codeword cache and those aren't allowed, either.

So.....my solution is to put one digit of the coordinates on each game piece (some caches have more than one game piece) and you can go to the final by finding all of the game pieces, or doing it the way SirGerald has set it up and maybe luck out and need only three game pieces.

So maybe it'll get approved this way. At least he said this before I hiked all the way up to Pike to place the game piece up there. That's a bit of a hike for an old fat chick in the winter. Of course, it IS accessible by horseback, so maybe we'll take the horses out this weekend...

As maggieszoo has learned, I am writing to caution anyone interested in setting up a cache like this to please review the listing guidelines very carefully. Please do not rely on older caches published under previous versions of the listing guidelines. It sounds like maggieszoo is well on her way to getting a Cloo cache that complies with the guidelines, given that there's a physical container at the end of the hunt, and the "detective work" needed to find out the final coordinates is self-contained within the cache hunt. Thanks for your cooperation with your reviewer! <_<

It finally got approved after I took out all hints of emailing. Three of the game pieces have one digit from the coords taped onto them. You may get lucky and find them first or you may be on the last of the 18 before you find the right ones. It won't be active until I hike back to all the places where the game pieces are hidden and re-label them.

Now I'm thinking further self-torture and changing the 'whodunit' and such once a year or so to keep it interesting. Can I do that?

Another variant would be to have the code word reveal the coordinates when input into the website...hmmm...methinks I have an idea for my next cache

Edit: AFter reading more of the rules - how about having the GAME CODE WORD be coordinates for the final cache?

I finally got my cloo game active! That last hike just about did me in. I had to climb the hill (a mile on trail?) a bit faster than I am fit for due to pending storm activity, but the geo dog and I prevailed! Waverly Ohio Cloo Game #6 is up and running. Somewhere under the passenger seat of my car is one of the weapons game pieces, but for the time being, five weapons is enough. I'll get it out there after I disassemble the car.

In order to get it approved, I had to delete all references to any kind of code words being put into a computer. The whole thing has to be completeable (is that a word?) without going back to the computer. So on one of each of the suspects, weapons, and places I put a sticker with a number on it. The number plugs into the final coords. The other pieces say "sorry". After most of the locals have had a chance to play, I'll change around the 'whodunits' and the final site and let everyone play again.

I'm sorry, but I don't see your huge problem. Is it the cache density? Not a problem. All of my game pieces went into existing caches. Most were mine, but I did get permission from three other cachers to put pieces in their caches.

The game pieces that you get from Sir Gerald are 1" metal washers, but you could use anything. If you had to use micros for your game you could write the clues on small pieces of neon colored cardstock, laminate them, and stick them in the containers. One of my washers is magnetted (is that a word?) next to my magnetic micro.

I put a cache at the starting coords with worksheets in it for those not using the cache page, but you wouldn't have to. As long as there is an actual cache at the final stage.

Oh, my game went online Sunday and was found Monday!! They were some busy cachers!! Some of the pieces were about 20 miles apart. A couple involved a pretty good hike, too.

I don't want to put them in existing caches because that means that people have to return to the site to get the information.

I wonder how it would work with travel bugs...

I did a whodunit cache (it is archived now) I made a list of local cachers, weapons (that the local cachers would use) and local caches. I got permission to use names and caches. I then bought foam circles at a craft store and wrote the nameon one and the weapon on the other. On the back of both I put do not remove and whdunit clue. I then "laminated" them with clear book binding tape. I then placed them into the local caches and adkes the folks to help me maintain them as far as removal. I kept a cacher and weapon out of the entire list. The cache with no clue was the "murder scene". I also had a final stage cache set up that they can go log with their "guess". It helped get people back into old caches that don't get visited much and was fun for our local geocaching group. In fact, Maggiezoo was one of the last to log my final stage cache although the game was over due to several of the caches being removed in December. Also, I suggest giving an expiration date on the game. Makes it more of a "contest" to see who can get it done first.

P.S. Foam shapes are cheap at a craft store!!!!!! Also check the kids section at Walmart.

Mine seems to be working fine. I have a first stage that has a list of all the caches divided up by suspect/weapon/place, including coords, clues, and GC#'s.

Oh, and I used clear packing tape to adhere the game pieces to the inside of the cache to prevent loss/theft. Then one entire cache was promptly stolen! Oh well, at least it didn't have the 'dunnit' piece in it.

The FTF on mine did it in one day.

The final result is a bit different from what i expected but i had to follow the guidelines (all information should be present in the cache page, no mails sending coords. nor information to be consulted in other sites) and there's a lack of regular sized containers in the area i choose (to hold the cards).

So, i inserted the series variant to keep the possible combinations high. :D

I'm happy with my "cloo" cache. Thanks to SirGerald for the idea! :D
