I am getting a lot of interest in next year's Jamboree and folks wanting dates as soon as possible. OK here are a couple of choices
June 7 or June 14, 2008
Campsite reservations can be made 11 months in advance.
The other decission to be made is which site to use for the event. Site #1 which we used last year is bigger and more open but has less parking.
I personally like the site we used this year as we still had plenty of room. But we do have to work out something about moving cars to the lot by the top of the hill leading to the beach. Check GJ5 web page for my notes.

Let me hear from you as this is your event.

June 14th is my vote for the date and the site we were on this year is my vote for the event. I think this years site was quite nice and had alot more shade and such . Car pooling to the event from the campground would work out good for those of us camping. Like the fire on saturday night i piled a load of cachers in my truck to save on any extra cars in the lot. ( YES we could of walked ... but it is more fun to pile all the "glowing" people in the back of a truck and arrive in style! )
I noticed that last years it does get pretty hot out in the open at the other site. We just have to designate a parking area for those who are not camping and suggest the carpooling from the campers.

For what it is worth, many New York schools will be holding thier graduation ceremonies on the 21st . . . . not that this matters concerning the two dates, but it might.

My sixpence to logistics would be:

Set-up the "circus tent" smack in the middle of the upper camping loop [ sites 41-68 ]..
this area is dead flat , and of course we would totally occupy all campsites!!!! not one muggle !!!!
the bathroom is real nice [ lots have examined it?] ...and has electrical power, also a power outlet for handicapped at site 50
[ believe me...I've cased the area REAL good, hiding those micro's, but thats another story.]

There are 28 sites up there....the main big loop, below... would become the overflow sites...has 28 + 2 sites....the center section is all hilly...hard to congregate? and bathroom a bit older and uphill for some?

At this proposed main event site...parking would be on grass allong both sides of road....all the way around the loop...it is flat! This to be mass meeting area... where the event is REALLY taking place...day and night...
for some non stop..?
Talk about getting friendly...sites are all close together..we wud practically own that loop! no long hike from campsite to campsite!

Have allways felt the youth areas to be so remote away from the camping crowd..such a COMUTE to switch from campgroud to event area....and back?

Must be a way to arrange for day trippers to enter campground to mingle with camping crowd?

Wonder what others think?

Zurch.

Our vote is for June 14. The last three Jamborees have been on the same weekend as our kids' dance recital, and we missed numbers 3 and 4 because of that. We did both this year, but it was a hectic weekend and half the family had to leave early. Chances are good that the recital next year will be June 7.

Cher and I will vote for June 7th, but that's because we already bumped our 2008 vacation back a week to June 13-22. We are hoping we wouldn't miss GJ like we did this year or struggle to do both like the year before.

Lots of good input.
As for setting up in the upper loop... day cachers would not be able to enter the area unless they are a guest of a camper and there are limits to that. They would then have to walk in anyway. Although I like the idea of continuous activities and less commuting. I think we can solve the commuting problem by getting some sort of golf cart or van that we can use as a shuttle bus. Plenty of time to work on that.

As for June 14.... Fathers Day...as I was just reminded. so......

It's Official
JUNE 7-8, 2008 GEO JAMBOREE 6

You can book campsites 11 months in advance. So when you are out there watching the fire works on the 4th of july...REMEMBER...It's almost time to book your site.

LET'S FILL THE CAMP THIS YEAR....NO MUGGLES! :?

I plan on arriving on June 6th so I have to wait until tomorrow to reserve my site, I can't believe it is time to get sites already!!! I am eyeing the same site I had this year, I know that there are no guarantees, but I would be grateful if people avoided booking site 26 so that I can get it again this year.

I'm sure that will not be a problem for anyone reading the forums ... I know that Moose-r-us and Mredden would like the same site as last year # 14, next to mine and they would apprieciate it if that one could be held until they book it tomorrow also !

After missing the 2007 jamboree because of a graduating high school senior, I can't wait to attend in 2008. Of course I'll have to, but I know I'm coming - I've got site 37! Those loops have really filled fast.

Any idea when the event will be posted?

Yes, please spread the word to all you know so they can get campsites. They are going fast.

As for the web page, as you know it cannot be published until at least 6 months in advance. I have just written admin. to get an exact ruling on that so we can get it up as soon as possible. In the meantime we are currently working on our own web page (www.geojamboree.com), that will contain all info on the events including a place for you all to add your comments and dicuss the event. This site will run continuously for all Geo Jamborees and should make communications a lot easier for all of us.
As special thanks to nmctwx for developing this page for us.

Hi,
Decided we had better get on the ball and register for next year. We are signed up on Campsite # 45. Same
as we had last year. Hopefully we can get ~Bailey~ to camp with us and then get Fismo to sign up for their campsite #44. Last year was our first time and we had a ball. Looking forward to another great weekend!

Glad to see you folks getting those sites. For those of you who have not looked at the Geo Jamboree Web Page we are planning a Pre-Jamboree Event a week or so before the main event. With all of you (me included) who like to get up there in advance to do caching, I thought this would be a good idea. Yes, I borrowed the idea from Camp, Cache & Paddle ......great idea. This will allow us to have more time for socializing and some added team games at the Jamboree.
The exact date will be posted later depending on feedback.

I have chosen Sunday, June 1 as a possible date for the Pre Jamboree Event. This would give us a chance to get together for some serious caching before GJ6 so we have more time there to hang out and enjoy each other's company. It will be basically informal but I will have a grill going and will gladly accept donations of food for those who want to have lunch together.
Further discussions of this and other GJ6 matters on the Geo Jamboree Web site.

OK We'll make it official since there seem to be no objections,
PRE JAMBOREE EVENT SUNDAY, JUNE 1
We will meet at the parking area where the road divides to the beach and the jamboree sites. There are picnic tables there for doing lunch. I will get coordinates and list them on the event page as soon as I am allowed to list it.
You can come and go as you want. The only real meeting time will be for lunch at 12:00 noon.

Please go to the Jamboree Web Page for discussion or to offer food.
Thanks

Can we do it? Well, I've talked about the great time we had at this event for the last two years. We have a plan if Mother Nature cooperates. We talking about coming up with my best friend and her daughter. However, the daughter is still in school. IF there are no snow days, she will get out the Thurs. prior to the event and everything will be wonderful. Otherwise, they can't come.

Billy and I will be looking at camp sites and will be getting reservations soon. At least, that is the current plan. This will be a quick trip to NE with a stop in ME as well as geojamboree. Leave MD on Fri, arrive CT, party Sat, leave for ME Sun, leave ME for PA Mon, home on Tues and back to work on Wed. Can we do it?

Well, I'm sorry to say that Billy came home to say a good friend and co-worker finally set his wedding date. The date is the same as geojamboree. So, unless the wedding is canceled and I truly do not see that happening, once again, I will be attending by reading the logs.

Have fun.

Stephanie is not sure if she can make it to the Jamboree this year so we are looking for a new Committee Chariman for the sign contest. All you need to do is judge the campsite signs and come up with a few prizes. Any volunteers?

I've sent Walt an email asking if I could have this position.
