I'm working on my first cartridge, using the Builder.

You can create commands for Items, Characters, and Zones, and there are checkboxes to show/hide. But when you go to create an Action, there is an option to "Show or Hide a character or item command"; but I can't see any way to dynamically show or hide a Zone command. Is this not allowed for some reason? Or some other way to do that?

hi,
zone commands appear to be an afterthought in Builder design. if you can't show/hide zone command using the "show or hide character or item" statement, they probably simply forgot to add it.

if you're working on your first cartridge, i very much recommend using URWIGO instead of the Builder. see this thread. i am pretty sure that this functionality is in it - and if not, you can ask the author to add it.

Earwigo can handle this too, but in any case, per-zone commands don't work on the Garmin platform.
