+BeachBuddies
So, is this inexpensive metal detector just a piece of junk, or might it actually help when benchmarking? It says the range is 4" which might be enough. And it certainly is cheap and portable. Anyone tried one, or something similar? Quote Link to comment
square nail
Any good metal detector will pick up a strong signal from the metal eyelets of your shoes. I don't see how this could work very efficiently. (just my oppinion) Quote Link to comment

They then detect any changes from that setting (usually more metal entering it's scan area, but it could be metal leaving the area too.) Quote Link to comment
Dan Vull
The problem is most monuments from back when contain no ferrous metal. Hence the metal detector would not be helpful. Some old Coast guys used to throw a chunk of rebar in the concrete to aid metal detectors. The old marks were made of brass. p Quote Link to comment
