+SixDogTeam
FNG here. What does it mean exactly when the description uses "Rails" as a unit of measurement, regarding railroad tracks? Also when they say something to the effect of "Light above station is 33 meters", what does that mean? In a little crossroads country town today, I found the railroad crossing gone (rails had been torn up along ROW), but the signal lights were planted in a guy's yard across town along with some concrete pillars one of which had a big black "W" painted on it (Blow Whistle)... woo-woo-wuf!! +Black Dog Trackers
Lead Dog - Rails is a measure of the length of railroad rails. Railroads are now made with continuous rail, but previously, the length of rails was related to the length of railroad cars used to carry them; 39 feet, or similar lengths. Check this old thread on this question. Height of light refers to the place that sightings took place at the station location, except straight up above it for good seeing.
