Purchased this app on 2/11/2011, it was balky but worked at that time. Several times In the last couple of months we have geocached in remote areas without cell coverage, the offline list feature did not work as expected.

I expect to be able to use the offline features of the app in remote areas the same as a nicer GPSr (Coords, Navigate to cache, Description, Hint, and Logs). I expect to be able to save additional logs ahead of time, and retrieve them later in those remote areas. I have gone back to using the Geocaching.com app for the iPod Touch (which works beautifully) combined with my Garmin eTrex. Please fix the Android app so it works just as well.

Motorola Droid X
Android 2.3.3
Geocaching app 2.1.1
Test Date 11/9/11, repeated on 11/22/11
=============================================================================
Baseline Test: Location: At home, within 3G coverage area
GC App Settings: Database Location: Phone
Wireless connection: Off

Downloaded PQ from Geocaching.com to Android app just fine.
Opened PQ from Offline Lists
Inside the app, clicked on a cache, "Secret Passage" (GCT8KG):

Cache details page shows:
Description

Recent Logs (0)

Hint

At the top of the cache page, the green bar says "Loaded from Pocket Query. Click to update goecache from Geocaching.com."
Clicked the green bar, it downloaded 5 logs.
Clicked <Recent Logs (5)>
Clicked <More> at the bottom of those logs, it downloaded 10 more logs.

After downloading those 15 logs, returned to the cache details page inside the app, it then said:
Recent Logs (15)

Clicked <Save to Offline List>
Clicked <Add to existing List>, I chose the proper list,
Clicked <Save>
App said "Saving Geocache to list."

------------------------
Later, returned to the Offline List, clicked on the same PQ, clicked on the same cache, "Secret Passage".
At the top of the Cache Details page there is no green bar, but instead a gray bar with a circle timer.
The cache details page now shows:
Description

Recents Logs (5)

Hint

I had to click <Recent Logs (5)> then <More> for the app to use the 3G connection to get the additional 10 logs which should have been already saved.

===============================================================
Simulated Out-of-Range Test #1: Phone Settings: Airplane Mode
GC App Settings: Database Location: Phone
Wireless connection: Off

Loaded the offline list
Clicked on the same cache "Secret Passage"

Get an error message: "Failed to connect to Geocaching.com
Click <OK>
Cache detail page loads and shows:
Description

Recent Logs

Hint

even though the information should have been saved to the Offline list previously.

Clicked on another cache from the same list, "HUBBA HUBBA"
Cache detail page is displayed with the green bar at the top: "Loaded from Pocket Query. Click to update Geocache from Geocaching.com."
Description

Recent Logs (0)

Hint

Clicked the green bar at the top get "!Failed to connect to Geocaching.com."

There should be no need to connect live to Geocaching.com each time to retrieve any logs. They should be downloaded with the original pocket query.

Thanks for posting this topic. I have have also experienced lack of logs when out of service. They appear when I am in service but not when I am out of service. It is as if the logs are not downloaded for offline viewing with the pocket query. All other cache data appears to be there when off line. I am also using a Motorola droid. I was wondering if I was the only one experiencing this issue.

I positively see this on my Verizon Fascinate (Samsung Galaxy S). In my case my PQs are downloaded but the app seems to try to connect and update everything when I select a cache. In low/no-cell areas this is of course problematic, which is what I 'thought' the PQ download was there to begin with (ie, make a true 'offline' list with the status of each cache at the download instant in time).

Example - I just downloaded a PQ. It has no logs and I'm "in" service. All I see is the top page, description, and hints. No logs. No attributes. No photos. Updating the cache page catches the app up to all the content that should have been there.

Note - the same PQ in GSAK correctly has all the data, so I have to call it a bug in the app.

We are aware of this issue and have it at the top of our list to fix.

Thanks Jon.

Is there a place the list is available so we can search before re-re-re-reporting stuff ?
