I am having all sorts of problems with this unit so I will just try and sort it a bit at a time.

My first problem is that when it is calculating a route is only calculates up to 2% and then stops. Is this correct?
How do I solve the problem?

I have tried to reboot the unit by using page and enter, but nothing happens. Is this the correct procedure.

I am sorry for being a bit vague but I am totally new to this unit and am a bit lost.

Steve

Have you updated the firmware to the latest one? I read the routing had been fixed somewhere? ( I'm looking at buying a 60 myself...)

I have a 76CSx which is basically the same unit and I have no problem calculating a route. One thing I thought about though, does your unit have a full set of maps or just the basemaps? That might make a difference if yours has just the basemaps.

Route calculation depends more on the maps than on the unit.

I have some maps (not from Garmin) that I paid far too much for, that claim to do auto-routing. They do it badly, very badly. An earlier version of those maps would produce laughably bad routes, totally illogical ones. A later version of those same maps still produces bad results, but also takes quite a few minutes to do so.

Whose maps are you using, and how long is the route? Also, is the route you are calculating pedestrian, bicycling or auto/motorcycle?

With City Navigator on an OR 300 I got the results you describe trying to navigate from Philadelphia, PA, USA to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, but it was trying to calculate a pedestrian route. When I switched to calculating for an auto/motorcycle the route worked fine.

Have you tried OpenStreetMap maps? They can be found here.

The map is the basemap that comes with the unit and it is on bicycle mode.

The length of the routes are very short. Only about 8km.

How do I find out what version I have and how do I update it?

If you're in bicycle mode and starting from somewhere that bicycles are not permitted you'll get all sorts of weird responses. I tried to calculate a route from a service station on the M6 to Ben Nevis forgetting I'd left it in bicycle mode and it sat and thought about it for a while before saying "No routes". Which perhaps wasn't entirely surprising, given there was no legal way for a bicycle to go anywhere from the service station.

If the maps you're using differentiate between a footpath and a bridlepath or cyclepath and you're starting out on a footpath (i.e. somewhere cycling is not allowed) you could have a similar issue.

Steve,
Version: Main Menu Page>Setup>System>Menu>Software Version>Entr.

You need the Webupdater from the Garmin site to update the version. I can't get a link from the Garmin site now, my IE is locking up there, and I don't have it on the PC, as it has been a long time since I needed it.

To do a hard reset:
With the unit off, hold down the Page+Entr then the Power Button for a few seconds, until a small box drops down asking you if you want to erase all user data. PEP is easy for me to remember the method. That sets the unit up just like it was when you took it out of the box.

Thanks for that XYZEE.

The version I have got is:

Version 4.20
GPS SW Version 2.30m

Do you know if this is the latest version or do I need to get it updated?

If I do, how do I go about it?

Steve

Go to Garmin's web site and click on Support, Software, WebUpdater, to update the unit.
My 60Cx is showing 4.10 and 2.20m, and I usuall run one or two versions behind the latest, so yours sounds about right.
By connecting to the WebUpdater it will tell you if it has the latest.
I just checked My PC, and there is no Webupdater on it, so it has been a few years since I used it.
As you explore the Garmin site, you can see all of the other stuff that you might need later.
