I have realized that the developers need to do an overhaul with the android app. Ever since I paid for this app... in compass mode, the app is useless. I was however in email contact for a few days... but with no resolution to the problem, nor was there any sign of anything being done. Since then I have seen a huge flow of negative feedback for this app. So it is not just my phone....,
Please... I love using a working app. Especially when I fork out 10.00 for it...when the free apps out there are working better than a paid version. Something is really wrong here and it needs to be addressed soon... or many people will be going elsewhere.

I looked up your ticket in our help system and I see that you didn't answer several of the questions that our support staff asked you. The most notable of these are:

  • What version of the Android app are you using (this can be seen on the splash page on launch or under "Help/About Geocaching")?
  • Do you have the compass set to magnetic mode or to motion-based mode?

I did give all versions i have. For some reason it was interpreted that I had an I phone. I am running the latest of ALL applications and updates for android and geocaching. I have uninstalled 4 times...and the same issue is there. The compass is in magnetic mode...and it goes wherever it wants. I have several other compass apps. And every one of them are flawless. I am very computer literate and I know when an app is wrong. I CAN tell you that every other portion of the app works fine. Something else has to be the issue...as I have heard the same from others with the same phone. Ty for the reply!

I'd love to track this issue down. This is not a global issue so it might be related to the particulars of your hardware.

I would also like to solve the issue. as my son has the HTC incredible 2, and it works great on his phone. (It was my phone, and I upgraded.... hence my disappointment)
I have tried everything I can think of to solve the problem. anyone else feel free to chime in with a possible solution.

Still waiting for a reply... or possible fix?
For some reason... I feel like I am on a political forum.... If I am not the masses... I am ignored.

Hunter6107

Can you read my post titled "wrong place" see if "we" have a similar "complaint"

If so ... do you use a different compass instead?

If so which one ... as I would like to continue geocaching but need a compass that doesn't get me lost ... I geocache with young 'uns and getting wrong coord from my compass is so longer an acceptable or safe geocaching experience :)

Thanks for any feedback.

LOL.... nice.
I have been using NGeo as of late. It has a live map... compass reads properly, not my favorite format of compass... but it works, and it's free. Groundspeaks compass on my sons HTC Incredible 2 works great. I too, use mine for my kids... as they are the ones who keep me going in the sport. I have fibromyalgia.... and I do this to keep mobile. My kids 4 and 10yrs. old.... LOVE to do this.
Everything else works on the app except the compass.... and THAT is the key for me. I need it for the coords when searching. I really wish someone higher above would take on this task of trying to fix the issue. (fingers crossed)

Hi hunter6107,

You are not being ignored; as I mentioned, this is not a global issue and we need to track down what might be the cause for you and your phone. We do not have your phone currently available to us for testing, so it might take some time.

FYI, the forums are best suited to reporting global issues affecting everyone. For help with smaller-scale issues, I recommend that you send an email to contact@geocaching.com. You'll get personalized support via that route.

That is exactly where I started out sending Emails to. THEN I came here... to hopefully get myself heard to more than one person.... just to see the response I would get. And it appears I am not the only one with compass or map issues not working properly.
I do not mean to come off sounding rude in any way. I am just stating facts.
No matter who this email goes to... it may as well be an automated response. "Although we understand your difficulties, please be patient. We will get to your issue as soon as possible. Thank you for spending 10.00 with Groundspeak so we can offer you the best support there is for a paid app."
Ngeo works... I emailed the developers about the compass app appearance. They were already in the makings of changeing things with it. (Free app by the way.

If there is a developer nearby me... I would be HAPPY to allow them to use my phone as a phone to look into the problem with. I also deal with developers with certain games for the Iphone (no android yet)... and would love to see what needs to be done. I could also end up being the person to help solve many problems down the road. (just sayin')..

I am on the cusp of sending my phone back for a replacement... to see if THAT changes things.

hi there,

im having a similar problem with an android phone. i'm using an sony ericsson wt19 (android version 2.3.4). unfortunately, the compass in the Groundspeak app (in magnetic mode) is 45° wrong. i tried to calibrate the compass with gps status and the compass within the gsp status app now works, but the compass in the Groundspeak app is still wrong. any ideas?
