Hello All, my mum and I have been struggling with a Garmin Etrex Camo for about 2 months now.

Firstly we are using easyGPS to transfer from PC to device, we can get waypoints on the device successfully.

However, we can only find the GC code and the Co-ords. We could probably find a few using this method but it seems hard work and less effective than the phone we were using. If we were to load more than 20 it would quickly become confusing.

Can anybody tell us how to load the Geocache name, the hint and the description onto the device and once that is completed how can we find it?

Thankyou in advance

Without using a work-around, the eTrex Camo will not provide you with the cache name or the hint. It is not a paperless unit. The manufacture release date was (supposedly) 2001, prior to 'paperless' geocaching without using external devices.
It is an outdated unit, but still it is serviceable and will get you on target. It simply doesn't have the capabilities to deliver paperless caching.

I understand there is a work-around using GSAK that will provide you with the name and the hint (if it isn't too long).

You can hand-enter the name, but even at that, I believe that you are restricted to something like 5 - 7 characters. Many cache names are longer than that.

Without the move to an upgrade, or utilizing an external unit such as a PDA, you are relegated to printing or writing that info before going out caching.

Sorry - but that unit is just not going to display anything more than the most basic information. My wife has one.

Also - that unit performs poorly with even minimal tree canopy and anytime you are not holding it flat in your hand with the screen pointed skyward.

Will it get you to a lot of caches?? - Absolutely. I used a similar model to find my first 200 or so.

As others mentioned it simply does not have the capability to display that information. Doesn't mean you can't use it to find caches. At one time the basic eTrex was probably the most popular unit among geocachers and many thousands of caches have been found using one.

I'm not so sure about that. That only works if there is a comments field and I don't think the old eTrex units had one. At least my original Legend and Vista didn't.
