I made a huge mistake and formatted my magellan gc. I did this because I wanted to wipe out all the older geocaches and update my unit with newer and updated geocaches. Well I formatted the unit and now all it shows is a white screen and some menu options at the top that don't respond. I called Magellan and they said the unit is toast. I can't believe that! Does anyone have any suggestions? Know a place where I can get these files back?

You could try what this other cacher did in this topic. Do steps 1-3, then download and try to update the firmware. If that doesn't work, you're probably hosed.

This is not a website feature request. Moving thread to the GPS and Technology forum.

I have played with my unit to know that all the programming for the entire unit is pretty much in its files. What you essentially did was similar to deleting your operating system. I have not tried this yet but I bet if find someone with a similar unit you may be able to use their files. When you do this, back them up. I own 2 Magellan units that I have backup copies of everything. My reason was just in case there is a update issue and the fact that I was playing with my unit like making it have different text, a new compass, background and changing the main screen to have my name and telephone number on it lol. Problem is, I know I do not own a unit similar to yours. Mine is a 710 and I have a feeling you would not be able to use my files otherwise I would help you out. If you are hosed as the other guy said, check with Magellan again and see if you can do a trade in and get another unit (same type).
Someone may be able to help you with finding files at this discussion.

(the way i said to do it may not work because you may not be able to connect it to the computer anymore..)

I know very little about the Magellan, but if your computer shows it as a disk drive, download and install Recuva. Recuva is the best free file recovery program I have found, but you should run it before you try anything else or you may overwrite the files that was on it.
