You won't have paperless caching (ability to view notes on the GPS screen) but you should be able to navigate to them.

You can buy USB cords for Meridians on EBAY.
One of the greatest GPS ever.....new ones don't have features found on it........for best results its good to load the most up to date firmware.

Where does one get that? I have a Meridian Gold which has never been updated, and I purchased it 11 years ago. My wife asked if there was a "cheap" GPS I could get for our son and I was thinking about bringing it back out.
I always found it to be rather slow to respond, overshooting caches by about 50 feet before it alerted me that I was close.

when I'd get within 100 feet I'd always slow down my pace and that way pretty well get away from the slingshot effect.

I have the Meridian Color and a Garmin 62s. I absolutely agree with you. I am planning a 25 day train trip, right now the MeriCol is getting prepared although I am thinking of taking the 62s along as a backup unit if weight allows.

This is a great site for Meridians....the firmware is in the " File " category.....you can download from there.

The Meridians only had one small issue....overshoot. When walking rapidly down a trail you would typically overshoot GZ by about 75 '......the cure was to simply slow down as you approached GZ. Walking slowly was fine as well as driving in a car.....you could drive to GZ and be right on target.

When I set up the Meridian and SporTrak to display in grid feet, for State Plane in the US, they both show the same results as the MobileMapper.
I've tried for years to get The SporTrak and Meridian to "boomerang" or "sling shot", but I have failed to find a way.
