Funny you should ask.
A topic posted/questioned asked earlier today: http://forums.Ground...howtopic=294046
A true answer I think, revolves around things like battery life; durability; water resistance; overall cost (GPSr doesn't use a plan or have subscription fees/costs or apps to purchase). In relation to these things, a dedicated GPSr wins handily.
Regarding accuracy however, this can be an argumentative subject. Let's just say a good many cachers use a phone to find, a GPSr to hide.

I go out with my family, let one of the kids use the GPSr and I use my iPhone with the geocaching app. I find the GPSr to be best once we get close, but the phone works well getting us into the 100 ft range.
As noted above, I'd say it's accurate enough to find caches but not to place them.

If you really like this hobby.....and you really like your phone...
Having both a GPS & the phone are probably the best way to enjoy this hobby. If your budget allows to get yourself a nice GPS.....go for it!!
If you discover the GPS isn't what you need/want....you can always sell the GPS.
