I'm teaching an "intro to geocaching" class this summer as part of a Kids on Campus program at the local community college. I've been caching for over a year and can't wait to share this hobby with the children!!

I'm struggling with finding GPS devices and/or smartphones to borrow for the duration of our 2 week class. The Kids on Campus program's budget is small and won't allow us to purchase new GPS devices for this class. I was told to check with the local USCellular and see if they would be willing to donate smartphones for us to use, but unfortunately they said they wouldn't be able to help this summer.

I'm curious if there is a program, company, something, that donates GPS devices or smartphones for this purpose? Anyone have suggestions on how to obtain these devices? I only have 1 GPS and my personal smartphone but we will have 15-20 kids in this class and it's going to be tough to share :)

thanks in advance for your help!!

~Lindsay

Sorry for the delay. You asked a similar post in another forum last year and I was trying to get the best help for you.

We suggest Donorschoose.org. Many teachers get good results by asking for one at a time.

Check with the local REI, community Centers, School Districts and Libraries.

If they would prefer to get loaner devices both Magellan and GISetc.com have a loaner program for a small fee to cover shipping etc. Contact their education departments.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Thank you, yes. I had posted the same question last year but thought maybe I should post it in a different (maybe more correct) category. I have to say, I checked into both websites you recommended and as luck would have it, GISetc responded to my request almost immediately and is going to be able to send us GPS units for the 2 weeks we need! I'm SO relieved! I just hope the lady in charge of the program I teach for will okay the $50 fee.

Thank you again, so much, for your help!
