Recently I wanted to get a printout of a cache note suitable for putting in a cache. Motes were available but only if I had Microsoft Word which is costly. Open Office does all that Word does and it is FREE. Also Open Office will recognize a Word file if you have that program.

Why not support Open Office for cache notes

You can download a MS Word reader from Microsoft site for free. It lets you read and print Word documents, but wont allow you to edit them.

I'm confused. Those of us who use OpenOffice can use the MS Word format files just fine. Why does Groundspeak need OpenOffice format files for us to download?

I just tried it and it worked just fine. I suppose if you are using an older version of OpenOffice and trying to open a document created with a newer version of Word you might have issues but my OpenOffice v3.0 was able to open both .doc and .docx files.

OpenOffice has always been able to open MS Word documents for me. Sometimes the formatting is a bit off, but that's been true even when I've used MS Word to open MS Word documents.
