yogazoo
Not sure if this is new to v4.60 but it's slightly annoying depending on how you use your GPS. When the GPS is in Landscape orientation and your Map view is Automotive Mode, the background of any dashboard loses it's transparency and appears gridded. Quote Link to comment

Amateur Hour at Garmin (still). Quote Link to comment
yogazoo
"Bug #35 created." Atlas, I think it's important to note that only if your in "Automotive Mode". Track Up or North Up still show transparent. I know that I'm beating a dead horse when I say this but it's amazing to me is how long it takes Garmin to fix this stuff and how often they break things along the way. Some of us have been patient for well over a year now and, while most things work just fine, we're still dealing with a list of bugs 35 deep. Sometimes it's frustrating. Quote Link to comment
+splashy
It gets boring and I don't think my next Gps will be a Garmin unless they finally stop making errors in new software. I have a Montana for about 16 month now and again and again they have other problems, this after switching unit 3 times in the beginning because of the sceen problems. If I see the Gps software (often free) on an Android it's lightyears ahead and working. Edited September 21, 2012 by splashy Quote Link to comment

Well, Montana Beta just reported back to me: This feature is behaving as expected, and has not been changed. ....When in landscape orientation using the automotive map perspective. This is to prevent the dashboard from covering up a large portion of the map that is to the left or to the right of your position. In this particular instance, when a dashboard is displayed, the map is centered around the vehicle in the remaining screen space. Anyone have screen captures showing the dashboards as transparent in Automotive Mode? Edited September 21, 2012 by Atlas Cached Quote Link to comment
yogazoo
Well, Montana Beta just reported back to me: This feature is behaving as expected, and has not been changed. I got the same email back from Garmin and I'm calling BS on it. It looks exactly like a glitch (the way it's outside of the dashboard boundary and gridded and the fact that it only goes opaque after a second or two). Why would they not have it as transparent? The dashboard is transparent in Portait mode and is even more critical in Landscape mode as it covers more of the map area. I think Garmin is starting to call quirky stuff "Normal Behavior". The Montana is a great unit, don't get me wrong, I'm just frustrated. I also have noticed that if I decide to auto-route along a dirt road or trail while hiking the distance to destination grows larger the CLOSER I get to it. I'm in LOCK ON ROAD and walking on the road/trail. I think it's simply a low speed issue where, for some reason, it wants to route me to the "START" of the route and then along the route. It renders the "HIKING" and "PEDESTRIAN" routing modes completely worthless for keeping track of live data. Edited September 21, 2012 by yogazoo Quote Link to comment
+Atlas Cached
If any user running older firmware can post a screen capture of a transparent dashboard in Landscape with Automotive View enabled, I would be greatly appreciative Quote Link to comment

They way it has been explained to me is that the dashboard is Opaque so that the position indicator is re-centered in the remaining screen space. If the dashboard remained opaque a significant chunk of map would be covered up as the position indicator does not recenter. I'll have to say that, in those terms, it makes sense and Garmin has given it some thought. Edited September 21, 2012 by yogazoo Quote Link to comment

Your screen shot is indeed not showing a transparent dashboard, just as Garmin described. I have a montana 600 running 4.10. I think I have the transparent dashboard but I don't know how to take a screen shot. If you tell me how to do that I will post it here. Quote Link to comment
+LadyBee4T
After a little big of digging I found out how to take a screen shot. If this isn't what you are looking for please tell me exactly how to set it up and I'll check to see if it changes. I usually use this view and don't change so I am a "little" behind in knowledge in that regard. The screen shot is saved as a bmp and I had to change it to a jpeg so that it could be posted here. LOL In this view it is opaque with the grid described before but that doesn't really show in the picture. Again this is with 4.10.... Quote Link to comment
