Easygps And Downloads

The Hammer

Recommended Posts

I am confused about downloading waypoints to my PC and then using "loading" them into EasyGPS. When I download a waypoint, it comes down in a .LOC.ASP format and EasyGPS doesn't like that; i.e. the latest one I downloaded is named geocaching.loc.asp.

Obviously I don't understand something or I didn't read something as closely as I should have or I am completely off base.

Can someone send me in the proper direction?

TIA

I do the following (I am using Win2K and Netscape7.1)

I select the cache - in this case GCBB21 in Crofton Park

I click on the "Download Waypoint file (*.loc)" icon

At this point, I can do one of two thing

- if I attempt to open it with an existing program (I select GPSeasy)

or

- if I save it to a file on my desk top and then open the file with GPSeasy

I get the same result - an error msg for GPSeasy that says

The file you have selected cannot be opened with EasyGPS.

I just determined that if I use IE 5.5, it downloads without the ASP extension - the question is why would it do that in Netscape and not in IE.

Oh well, now I just need GPSeasy to talk to my etrex

thx

There is an option you can set in Netscape to create the file as you expect. I found that searching this forum when I switched to Netscape from IE a few months ago. (Search for Netscape and loc? Netscape and download?)

I have the details at home. If you search and can't find it, let me know and I'll try to find the information.

Here's the link to the thread where I found how to make it work with Netscape 7.1

Looks like you got it figured out at least how to download it. I have had similar problems with Netscape like that before...

do you need help with getting EasyGPS to talk with your etrex too?

EasyGPS: File/Preferences/Add GPS/Put in correct Port and speed.

Port and speed must match on your GPS and the EasyGPS program.
