Jaycosauras
We're leaving in a couple of hours, I'm gathering up firewood now, and packing the camper. Also, of course I have to run to Wal-Mart, my home away from home. I thought I'd get a few "trade" items there, but have no idea where to start, or what to look for. I need suggestions - HELP!! +pqcachers
Here's some stuff I've traded: mini deck of cards carabiners rain poncho keychain pretty colored note pads (ok so I'm a chick...lol) magnets plastic figurines bouncy balls Have fun! Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
A better stop might be a dollar store. They have lots of good trade stuff and each item is ... One Dollar. Take a few minutes and walk around the store and pick up items that are small enough to fit in a cache and either kids or adults might be interested in. I found a small FM radio recently as well as packaged toys, cork coasters, a sewing kit, and other such items that will work well. I know you are in the western Washington area and I can point you to two stores close to each other near Renton if that will help. Email me if you want those directions, I will be online for the next few hours at least. Quote Link to comment
+Kewaneh & Shark
Any toy left out by my kids that I step on in the middle of the night becomes the newest cache trade item. Quote Link to comment
+Sparky-Watts
Best rule of thumb is to leave what you'd like to find! And, BTW, there really are no stupid newbie questions, just the occasional stupid old-timer responses! Have a great time and Good Luck! Quote Link to comment
Jaycosauras
I'm in Texas, so Washington is slightly out of the way, but I am a big fan of the Dollar Store. I'll check there. Thanks for the ideas. Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the ideas. Sorry about the confusion. I mistook you for another new cacher in the Seattle area. I like Dollar Store and Dollar Tree. Both stock a good supply of trade items. +yumitori
Be sure to also check the cache hiding guidelines for trade goods that are not a good idea. Food or other scented stuff, for example, attracts animals, and some land managers are uncomfortable with knives and similar items in caches, to the point that the sport has been banned in their area. There's plenty of other possiblities, fortunately. Quote Link to comment
Snipe33
Any toy left out by my kids that I step on in the middle of the night becomes the newest cache trade item. LOL...I do that with the kids toys too...they have too much stuff and I usually recycle their good stuff into caches that kids frequent around here. Quote Link to comment
+Lazyboy & Mitey Mite
I tried to trade my wife at a cache once but then I remembered the adage about not trading down. Quote Link to comment

+sturgeongeneral
I have to agree with Sparky here. Leave something you would be happy to find. Too many caches get trashy with useless junk. It doesn't matter what I find, but it makes it more enjoyable for kids. Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+FarSideX
..... I'm gathering up firewood now,..... Firewood isn't a good trading item. Besides the weight it won't fit in most cache containers. Small dollar store items are good, but unusual items in the same 'price range' are better IMHO. People tend to start trading the same stuff from dollar stores here, it's a treat to find some item that the dollar stores don't carry. Quote Link to comment

+DustyJacket
keychain flashlights cyalume sticks dollar store jewlry for girsl balls, whistles, other "kids stuff" arrowheads, temporary tatoos, gel pens, etc....... The Dollar Store is my friend. Quote Link to comment
+icecoolputer
Funny enough I haven't seen any wives at any of the caches... Of course I have only found 3 caches so far so I might not find any wives for a while... What should you trade for a wife anyway??? I want to make sure I have the proper goods for trade if I find a wife at a cache... Quote Link to comment

+icecoolputer
Well, I actually haven't figured out where I am going to caching tomorrow... Someplace in Victoria BC Canada or the area... But what would I need to bring in trade? <grin> I think THAT is the big question!!! I figure that it would depend if she was like Rosanne from the tv show of same name or if she looks like Sarah Michelle Geller < Buffy the Vampire Slayer> I would probably need less for the first, and LOTS for the second... +OneOfEm
I just received a box of trade items that I ordered - Iraq playing cards. If you look on Froogle, you can get the decks for $1 each for 36+. It's just something a little different. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
I think mini skate boards called "Tech-Decks" make good cache items there very small and kids like them ALOT (i know because i am one lol). There sold just about any where, Drug-Mart, Walgreens, any toy store, Walmart included Edited January 1, 2004 by ALgeocacher Quote Link to comment
