Rumpled
I've got a Meridian Platinum and am now looking to get a few accessories. I need a bike mount, car mount and a car power cable. Any tips on where to get the best price for all of these? I'd even settle for slightly higher price on any item(s) from one outfit considering shipping and all since I need all three. Thanks for any help Quote Link to comment
DustyJacket
Have you tried the Magellan web site. Certainly is not the cheapest. Quote Link to comment
Rumpled
Actually, I have; and they are expensive. I'm looking for the best deal for all three. Still looking for help. Quote Link to comment
embra
Take a look at www.gpscity.com where I got my RAM mounts. They also sell power cables. If you are looking to use your mount in multiple places, I would recomend getting a complete outfit with the 4" suction cup (for the car windshield) and the U-bolt ball mount to switch everything over to the bike handlebars. The RAM components can be a little hard to sort out online. The gpscity site helps on this count; ask questions if it's still unclear. The drawback on the RAM mounts is that you have to mount data/power cables by hand before you put the GPS in the mount. However, I still prefer RAM over the Magellan offerings because they are much sturdier. Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
I use a combination of the RAM flexarm gear and the Magellan bicycle mount. I did this because I wanted the quick disconnect without having to add the effort of adding the power cable before putting it into the GPS holder and removing the power after removing it from the RAM GPS holder. I received the final parts last week while I was out on my annual winter camp so will finish the installation and post pictures in a couple of days. I did discover one thing though, make sure to use loctite to keep the connections firm if you expect to go off-roading. You can't torque them down enough without the connections breaking loose when readjusting the position. I'm thinking of actually using a cold weld epoxy to permanently affix the flexarm to the mounting base. Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
Ok - here's the photos I promised. Again I used a Magellan bicycle mount with a RAM Flexarm setup. Total cost @ ~$100 with shipping and tax. Quote Link to comment
