Bench Mark Hunting And Metal Detectors

How many use a metal detector to hunt for relics, oil coins etc near the survey marks location?

 

I showed a friend some old survey mark locations last summer at old state fire tower sites and he went there with his metal detector and found some old coins, a few arrow heads and a huge chunk native float copper about the size of a football (common find around here), a local contractor for gas company found one 3 tons. He convinced to get into it and just got a White's metal detector a week back. Went whole hog with a XLT model. Many survey marks around here that have seen little traffic since they were set back in the early 1900's.

I tried using one for brass and bronze markers but never got it to work, they say it will, but not for me, but then again a lot of things don‘t work for me…………JOE

Well this is my first post here. Yes I also own a Whites detector and it has come in handy for more than several marks found.

My Radio Shack gets BM's,coins,iron,which can all be discriminated out.

Aluminum cans which I hate they sound just like a BM and usually are all around them.
