I have an idea for a new cache, It is maybe not very original I dont know if there is anything similar but this is how I would like it to work, I will fill it up with postcards with addresses already filled in on them. When someone finds the cache they can take a postcard and leave one of there own. The one they take home with them they can write about the cache trip or holiday or just about the weather then post it. This means that who ever takes the postcard could be sending to absolutley anyone that has found the cache or has a postcard in the box. What I would like is for other cachers to send me some postcards(in an envelope) with your own address on it, I will put it in the cache then some day you might get your card back from a random cacher, It might take a long time because where I live there are not very many cachers in my area, Or you may never see it again but thats a risk to take. What do you think? will it work? has it been done before? do you want to send me a postcard? send me an email and I will send my address out to you.

I think this sounds like a pretty cool idea.
The only thing would be to get people to actually bring a post-card to the cache. But if it worked, that would be neat. |

I'm not sure how many people would want their real name and address left inside a cache.

Sent a geocache exchange to Germany with a bunch of postcards. Thought about putting my return address on some of them but didn't for this reason. Too many problems to warrant this. A different version of this would be to send a post card to the cache owner with your geocaching handle on it, then when the card gets taken, the finder can email you through gc.com. The cool thing about this (aside from the security concerns) is that these postcards could turn into mini travel bugs moving around the local area of the cache. |

I've seen a letterbox or two where the hider left a bunch of postcards with his address on them. Finders would take one and send it to him. This is especially helpful in letterboxing since there is no online logging.
So there's certainly precedent for it. Understandably, as has been mentioned, some people just wouldn't be comfortable with it. Some local caching orgs have their own mailing addresses. It might be something for them to consider. I'm sure no org wants to be a clearing house for everyone who wants to place a postcard cache, but maybe the org itself could do something with the idea. |

Some years ago I was involved (in Europe) with a hobby that was considered 'naughty' by certain authorities. It involved confirmation of radio contacts by mail. The same reluctance to have real addresses given over the airwaves existed as has been mentioned here regarding addresses in cache containers. What we did was get together in small groups and rent a mailbox which we shared - the cost becomes pretty minimal.
This is a neat idea, (IMHO) and if it were to be accepted as a part of geocaching, then the above method of handling it would be a possible approach. Nice one Donnie |

This sounds a lot like a Postcard cache I did in Germany over the summer called Schwarzwaldpost (GC2667). Have a look at the cache page for the details...I think it's a great idea.
...and I wish some people would stop being so paranoid. |

What I did for my postcard cache was to fill a box up with postcards adresssed and stamped. Cachers are instructed to mail me the postcard from their home so I'd have cancelation stamps from various home towns.
It's been nice receiving them every so often. |

if a cache gets muggled, i would be very paranoid. not everyone who finds a cache has good intentions. if i sent postcards it would have a PO box number on it. |

Thanks for all the things to think about, I can understand why people may not like addresses being availlible to strangers. I am toying with making it a very difficult cache to find so that it will not get accidently stumbled upon, But the downside to this is it may only get logged a couple of times a year as I am in quite a remote area with out many cachers around so most finds are travelling holiday makers doing a round tour of the north coast and they quite often miss out the slightly harder caches in the area. I am still planning something though I just have not come up with the final format yet.
