I would like to understand the different types of coordinate systems that are used on maps and GPS. How many types are there and where’s the best place to learn and understand them. Are some more accurate or easier to use and why. Also what does aviation use for search and rescue and why. Thank you.

THIS SITE is a good place to start for coordinate systems.
Some are easier to use (to those that find some strange) but generally all have a purpose.
Aviation & Marine "generally" use a geodetic latitude/longitude in dDD MM.mmm format.
Cheers, Kerry.
I never get lost
everybody keeps telling me where to go
