2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
Boy were we lucky today! We were driving towards Page, Az from Kanab, Ut along Hwy 89 and were watching a heavy electrical storm brewing ahead of us. There was quite a bit of lightening in the area. After one particularly bright bolt we started seeing a column of smoke in front of us. It appeared to be where there is a small power sub-station on "Five-mile Mtn". As we got closer we could see it was on past the sub-station. It was then that we could tell it was close to a cache near the hwy. We stopped at the cache and made a quick grab of the cache container and then got the coordinates of the fire. It was less than a 1/4 mile from the cache!! We went directly to the BLM ranger station and reported the fire and gave them the coordinates. The ranger said he had heard nothing on the radio about any fire and that he would call it in immediately. We left and went on to check another back roads area for possible cache placement. After about an hour we headed back to where the fire was. The fire crew had the fire almost out when we went past so we took the time to replace the cache where it had been. Things turned out very well for us, since this was our cache that we saved. It was Mollies Nipple that we saved. Amazing we just happened by in time to see the fire and report it. Fortunately it only burned less than 1/2 acre. John & Shirley Quote Link to comment
WH
It was Mollies Nipple that we saved. I bet Mollie is happy not to have a burned nipple. Quote Link to comment
+Pobre Rico
It was Mollies Nipple that we saved. I'm sure Mollie is ecstatic! Looks like kache karma will be headed your way! No DNF's and lots of FTF's! WTG! Quote Link to comment

dampeoples
I had visions of you running into a burning forest to get a cache when I read this...glad it all worked out Quote Link to comment
+Robespierre
Not sure why you didn't try to save the snake. Quote Link to comment
+Mopar
Glad you reported the fire and it was contained. Is anyone gonna point out how badly this could have turned out though? Forest fires can cover 1/4 mile in a matter of seconds under the right conditions, no geocache is worth risking a life to save. Glad it turned out well, it could have been so much worse.
