+Quintheeskimo66
I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes. Feel free to Markwell me. My girlfriend and I went caching yesterday. We found a couple of caches that were supposed to have TB's in them, but there were not. And looking at the log books in the caches, it had been nearly a month in one case, and about 2 months in the other that someone had been to the cache. I checked online and got about the same results. What are your suggestions? I'm a little concerned because I just ordered 2 travel bugs for release, and I see in this forum that a lot of these go missing. -John Quote Link to comment
+ZackJones
When you post your find be sure to include that the TBs were not in the cache. The cache owner can then mark them as missing from the cache and they will be moved to an unknown location. TBs have been known to go missing. One of my latest went missing after traveling a whopping 11 miles . Before releasing a TB ask yourself "If I never see this again will it make a difference?" If the answer is yes then find something else to release as the TB. Zack Quote Link to comment
+Cache Viking
What ZackJones said, post your log with the comment that the TB was not in the cache. This was done for me in connection with Cache Viking TB. The owner of the cache it went missing in was doing some maintenance and decided to read through the log. To his surprise Cache Viking TB was removed and logged in the book but not online. The nice part was they used their real names which were found by the cache owner in an internet phone book search. I sent a nice letter to the people who had the TB and about a week later Cache Viking TB was placed in a cache, nearly 6 months after going missing. He today is having fun with the Cheeseheads. +globalgirl
Pinned topic, right at the top of this TB forum. Check out Snoogans' TB Longevity Clinic - TONS of great tips for minimizing the risks of a wayward TB: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=64691 No guarantees of course. And meanwhile, ditto all of the above on definitely posting that it's not there (if the page is showing that's where it's s'pose to be), and ditto ZackJones on "...if I never see this again...[life will go on]..." Remember 'tis but a GAME, after all. Quote Link to comment
+Quintheeskimo66
Thanks everyone for the advice. I've already logged the finds, but I'll go back and post a note to each stating that the TB's were not there. And CV. I've been watching and enjoying the Cache Viking TB's adventures with the Cheeseheads. It's quite entertaining. That story gives hope to all lost Travel bugs. Be on the lookout for my two Travel Bugs to be released in the near future. One will start here in NY and the other will start in Missouri. (provided I get it ready before I have to leave for my vacation there) I'll be sure to go and read the pinned topic as suggested. Thanks again, Happy caching - John Quote Link to comment
