rescue557
I've never been to a Geocaching event before, and so far nobody has posted any nearby where I live. So I'm wondering, where are good places to host events (besides my house)? Are pizza and wing nights popular? Anybody have any ideas for locations or activities? Please help! [] Quote Link to comment
Tahosa and Sons
Any place you wat to DISCUSS Caching is fine. Remember you can not look for caches during an event. According to paragraph one of the guidelines, paragraph two says you can look. I think that is what is says. Event Caches Event caches are gatherings for geocachers by geocachers to discuss geocaching. After the event has passed, the event cache is archived. While a music concert, a garage sale, a ham radio field day or an orienteering event might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the primary focus of these events is not geocaching and the primary attendees are not geocachers. In addition, an event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for an organized hunt of another cache or caches. Such group hunts are best organized using the forums or an email distribution list. For geocaching events that involve several components, such as a day-long group cache hunt that also involves a seminar and dinner, only a single event cache covering all components should be submitted. adampierson
Suitable places involve a place for people to sit down, walk around, talk, and eat. The local restaurant (pizza parlor or a place that has a decent buffet) that has a group of seats that you can reserve should do. Generally holding an event in the morning allows people to socialize then break up into groups with more time to go caching. The last event I attended was great. Met a bunch of cachers in the area and there was a raffle - everyone got something. Very cool! It all depends on what you want to do. Quote Link to comment
+mtn-man
In spring, summer and early fall you could use city and county parks. Many have pavilions you can reserve. Lots of those are free! We pass the hat at the meeting if there is a fee to reserve the shelter. If it rains you stay dry and can still have your meeting. If there are caches in the park, after the meeting you can go out in groups and hunt caches together. Our group moves all over the state each month and we have only been to the same place a few times. Mostly that is in winter months when we look for inside locations to use. Keep an eye out for bathrooms at these locations too. Edited November 19, 2004 by mtn-man Quote Link to comment
+fly46
Somewhere near caches is always good, too.. People like to be able to cache on their way to and from events. Quote Link to comment
+wimseyguy
Round here we also use the city/county parks, but we schedule the event for late in the afternoon. There are usually new caches hidden in the parks before an event, folks show up whenever they want to go out in groups to hunt. Then we have a cookout dinner together. In cooler months we tend to stay indoors and meet at places which serve quality beer and food. The more cachers in the area, the more events there seem to be. We are up to every other month without any real planning to do so. It's a great way to great to meet new friends, and see old ones. Quote Link to comment
