Falsifying Finds

Recommended Posts

A few of my friends (fellow Geocachers) where discussing our latest finds (we are all around 50 or so) And got into talking about people who have several thousand and wondering where they get the time, money and effort. We where discussing a particular Geocacher (who will remain nameless) and how they have gotten so many. Well we think it is a scam. Upon further investigation this person has claimed to have found 30 caches in one day (10/31/04). This I know, this is not impossible. But the fact they where in several states with one in Maine and most being in North Carolina with a stop over in Pennsylvania and other states. These are not Locationless (Reverse) Cache caches they are standard caches. Here are some of the other caches they claim to have found that day.

GCK9YE Rhode Island, GCK642 North Carolina, GCK9YM Maine, GCK9XW Massachusetts, GCKY6Z Pennsylvania and GCK9YG New Hampshire.

I am not trying to start a flame war here. Or take something away from someone else. But why would someone do this? It is not like we get a prize or something. I think it cheapens all of our legitimate finds. And if all these finds are legit. Please tell me how I can travel faster than the speed of light. My numbers could use a boost.

If my findings are incorrect I apologize.

Unsubstantiated claims are the worst kind of rumors.

Its none of your business what another persons find count is. Play your own game and don't worry about anyone else

what i want to know is :HOW is this open.

before it gets closed again, i'd like to say that by my calculations all you'd have to d for those kinds of numbers is five caches a day. heck, if i'm not working, ican do that without breaking a sweat.

and although it's be hard to log caches in ME and NC in the same day, once again it's possible if you're road-tripping and you go for a full 24. even easier if you just HAPPEN to own a plane.

Is this a professional way to end a topic you do not agree with??

And no I do not and never have beat my wife. Why would you think that from this post? I just brought up a topic for discussion. My claims are self evedent if you read the logs I Posted.

Just a few points. All but the NC cache are very possible to get in one day, especially if you've ever seen Lynn cache. What it looks like though is she probably was logging a bunch of caches (she often does several hundred at a sitting) and forget to change a few dates. They came thru here (new england) last month and probably found a few hundred caches over the course of the weekend. I could dig through my watchlist emails or logs for some of the others, But her name is in tons of caches up here, and I suspect if you dig a little deeper you will find she probbly just got the date wrong.

Actually, I dug a little deeper myself before hitting send, and I can tell you exactly what happened. All those New England caches were hidden by her daughter, SBUX, on that trip thru new england I mentioned. Her daughter probably then gave her the coords and let her find the cache, before it was approved. Since they live in pa, they then had to find people to maintain the cache before they could be approved. That probably took several weeks. The caches were all approved on 10/31, so that's the date CCCA used as a find, even though technically she had found it several weeks earlier. It's late at night, hope I explained it well enough.
