Is there anyone out there who can give me some guidance about using TB's with 3rd graders. I was wondering if anyone has made a powerpoint presentation to present to kids about geocaching and maybe I could use it. I thought it would be a neat idea to introduce my 3rd graders and start some TBs for them. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here's a geocaching flash presentation:
http://store.trailmi...t-seminars.aspx
Its a little dated (talks about using PDA rather than the geocaching iphone app) but the basic concepts about starting kids out with an easy cache and discussing the concepts of fair trade before you find the first treasure are all in place.

May be you could use GPS and Geocaching to teach your kids the metric system and help reduce the US mathematical illiteracy.
I am always amazed how many can't read a map, understand what a scale is, compute distance and area.
True, crazy scale like 1 inch equal approx. 1/4 mile, doesn't help.

Haha, very true. More and more schools around here are offering these courses in high school though. They didn't when I went. I learned what I needed to know from parents and when I furthered my education, but it's sad that we're not taking the responsibility as individuals for the destruction of our economy.
