What Is Jeremy Irish On??

Recommended Posts

Going by the way that Jeremy Irish replies to his customers, take this thread as an example. It is a wonder that GC.com does so well?

Is it just me, but are we customers or just people who have made a contract? I thought we were customers!

I would like to bring your attention to the part were he says 'Kissing your butt wasn't part of the service contract.'

I'm extremely pleased that when things go wrong here, that Lactoforum and Eckythump know how to deal with the situation with authority but more importantly with manners.

NOT A PLEASED TEDDY :(:(:D:(:(

'Fraid he's right, Dave...

...I just went through the Terms & Conditions document - and there's no mention of kissing butts anywhere in there.

But seriously: it does seems as if JI is under bit of strain, these days - perhaps he should go and have a nice comfy lie down...

... on his wallet. :(

Please be careful what you are writing. While you have every right to complain about things you do not like, this has started off VERY close to breaching the forum guidelines on respect for others.

I suggest any further comments are considered carefully before pressing the "Submit" button.

Nope that is a standard Jeremy attitude! Just have a look back through his post and you will find the attitude comes out on a regular basis. How many other owners of a business would tell paying customers "to take your toys some where else if you don't like it". Aragance has a way of coming back and biting you, as Jeremy will eventualy find out.

Heck I just read this thread!

How disappointing!

What's happened to the that old maxim "smile, the customer is always right" (even if he isn't..)?

Civility costs nothing.

Customer service is about getting the customer to feel good, certainly not what JI has done here! :(

You are quite right, we should consider carefully before pressing the submit button.

I can't see how I have came very close to breaching the forum guidelines, as what I have said is actually factual (with a hint of opinion), my quotes on Jeremy are indeed his actual written words.

Who wrote the forum guidelines? As I am sure it was not Jeremy, and if it was, he really should re-read them and start applying them to himself.

Perhaps Jeremy should employ a PR team who will help him respond to questions always in the most diplomatic language and without risking annoying anyone.

Maybe he shouldn't even post in the forums at all, but simply dictate policy from a bunker deep under Groundspeak Inc. headquarters, having first cleared the written press release with a committee of wise men from all geocaching countries. It's to his and geocaching.com's credit that he has a human and accessible presence by joining in the forums rather than becoming a bland figurehead in the background.

Come on, HH, you made the first sarcastic comment in the thread, jumping down the throat of Welch, who merely suggested an obvious possible solution. Surely you should expect to have to take a little gentle irony yourself when posting the "last time I looked" line.

IMO, because the response happened to be from the geocacher who also runs the most successful cache posting web site, you overreacted. That's just my opinion - you asked for it...

HH perhaps you are correct. I may have been a bit sarcastic by saying that I was not the cache police, well i'm not to put it bluntly. But I admit I should have stated that differently.

However, Jeremy as the owner of the site, should have been more democratic and not responded in the way that he has.

A newcomer sadly came onto it, and apparently was appalled by Jeremy's comments. It appears he has started his own thread on the subject which certainly appears to be a bit of a hot potato at the moment. It can be viewed here

Having read the original thread, I would say you poked a lion with a stick, HH, and the lion roared. Jeremy often comes over a little more caustic than our own dear officials but I think, in this case, he had justification.

Just my even-handed, level-minded opinion. :(

I've read the other thread and I do wonder about the value of posting similar arguments here in a UK specific forum.

However, if you want to do so then so be it.

At the moment I have no intention of closing this thread while that one remains open.

Jeremy may just open it again

HMcH,

Yes, I read the thread and it didn't change my opinion. Now it's got(ten?) very silly too - great! :(

Sorry, but I'd rather have a bit of (generally) good-humoured banter and even light conflict than the polite PC blandness you're trying to encourage. If anyone is so sensitive that even gentle irony causes such offence that a new thread is felt necessary, I'd respectfully suggest avoiding posting in the forum at all. It'll only happen again.

If it's just that you feel you're a "customer" of Jeremy's so he should only pay you compliments: that's sad, and I'd be sorry if Groundspeak became just another corporate bureaucracy that feigns sincere regrets every time it upsets the punters.

I take your point, I did start this thread 20 minutes before that one was started. it really is a pity that on several occassions on that thread Jeremy has in fact breached his own forum guidelines.

Poor Mad Marty has been attacked from all sides, whilst defending myself, someone he has never had correspondance with. It really is sad that Jeremy pokes fun at him being told to 'Shut His Pie Hole' :(:(

Myself and several other thousands of people who buy TB's, Geocoins, merchandise and pay for membership are the people who assist to put food on Jeremy's table (and if not food on his table at least his beer money). So I don't expect him to pay me compliments, but I also don't expect him to be rude.

If he thought I was he should have said so. I have in fact taken heid of that fact that my initial statement may have been sarcastic (although I didn't think it was) and I have given welch a private and public apology, something which I have never been afraid to do.

Jeremy on the other hand be-little's people with complaints, that is not good for business, and is even more rude than the customers being rude to each other.

It does appear that a TROLL was the newcomer, or so Jeremy made people believe. This however doesn't take away why I posted this thread, as it was started before the other thread was.

Sorry it was a typo :( I have corrected it

Sorry, I guess I just can't get rid of that sarcastic streak. I actually have a fridge magnet that says "Sarcasm is just another free service which I provide".

Thinking of that fridge magnet has just made me realise that perhaps I may have over reacted slightly, but on the same note does that still justify the way Jeremy speaks to people, espescially those that he does not know?

Thanks for defending me? :(

but as Haggis Hunter already knows, I didn't take the cache police comment to be a dig at me. of couse I didn't see Jeremy's post as any... different than usual.

When reading the forums I try to read it as a mellow light tone. Perhaps too much because I was somewhat suprized when *whosh* the fora anger level up and spiked today :(

Oh for goodness sake, IT'S A FORUM!!! they are always like this. Anybody with advanced sensibilities (or even merely normal ones!) should avoid forums like the proverbial plague.

Mind you, I completely agree with comments about the relative polite niceness of the UK forums. Some of the stuff on the general (ie USA) forum gets incredibly abusive to the point where I am astonished by it. Mind you, the luxury of the internet is that you can have your slagging match from afar, safe in the knowledge that the slagee cannot come round and punch you in thr gob (at least not very readily!).

Okay, group hug for the lovely UK cachers, especially the moderators!!...

As someone who has a 2 year old son who throws tantrums, I find that thread hilarious and very therapuetic and I'm only on page 4.

Kind of sad that MadMarty got banned, I'd have liked to have seen more, but still 6 pages to go so I'll make the most of it.

Let me see if I can round this up, If I get anything wrong please correct me.

Because Jeremy has always been rude, arrogant, and offensive towards people, that makes it OK for him to carry on and keep breaking his own forum guidelines. But when someone else does the same, they get told off, and aren't allowed to do it. Period!!

Also, if I don't like the rudeness that comes from the owner of the site which I subscribe to, I just shouldn't use that particular service which he can be rude to me through?

It all just sounds fundamentally wrong to me. Perhaps I'm just being a stick in the mud, and that in this day and age, it is all right to be rude, arrogant, and offensive towards people, espescially towards customers that you have not got a rapport with.

At least he has the virtue of being consistent.

Ever since I started geocaching, the attitude from TPTB has always been "If you don't like the way this listing site is run, the are other ones that you can use."

This might strike you as being fundamentally wrong - but it's a perfectly viable way to run a business. Many successful businesses are run with this philosophy, and it has a surprising number of advantages, commercially.

The unusual thing about GC.com is the number of customers who claim to be dissatisfied with the way it's run - but still continue to use it.

This doesn't tell you much about the business - but it tells you a lot about some of the customers.

Probably tells you more about the competition rather than anything else.

If there was a viable alternative to GC.COM them I'm sure that atitudes would be a whole lot different.

You are right, the other sites just don't have the folowing that this site does, and I'm sure I'm not going to allow the owner to bully me away from an activity that I greatly enjoy.

Would allowing an entire forum dedicated to your posts about how mean he is to you be an example of how he's "bullying [you] away?". Sounds like the type of bullying you'd find in a Pre-School Bible Study class. But please continue the screed...it's quite entertaining.

Please be aware that this is the UK forum

make sure you are well versed in UK etiquette and are aware of all cultural differences before posting

for example pre school bible class has absolutely no meaning to most people in the UK i believe thay are called playgroups over here

but feel free to "a**/u/me"

edit how come assume got ** ?

nb should probably lock this thread now HH before it stretches to 10 pages again.

I think you will find that this forum is a lot more civil than the one that surpassed yesterday, were Jeremy banned the account holder and asked for an apology, before locking the thread.

Jeremy or the approvers could quite easily close or delete this thread, (which I do believe is what you are implying) however to do so would probably end up with the same lashback that happened after the Tsunami threads being closed. Which if I remember correctly nearly resulted with our two superb approvers with throwing the towel in.

But i'm pleased that you find it entertaining, I however actually find looking for the container more entertaining than having to complain. But I am dadgum* sure I won't be quiet, just because Jeremy and his supporters may not like what is being said.

* wanted to use the word d a m n here but it looks like the autobot system americanises it.
