ATMA
We now have the container and have picked a good spot for a TB Hotel. Not wanting to do this wrong, we are looking for some rules regarding TB Hotels. Can someone direct us to the rules on that or give us the brief rundown on it? Quote Link to comment
cache_test_dummies
Can someone direct us to the rules on that or give us the brief rundown on it? Officially, the rules for a listing TB hotel are no different than the rules for listing any cache on this site. This is because the 'hotel' designation is just a description applied by the cache owner - Geocaching.com doesn't officially recognize these caches as different type of cache. TB hotels, you will find, can be pretty controversial. One main reason is that if a TB hotel goes missing, lots of travel bugs can go missing with it, all at once. If you do a search for TB Hotels, you'll find that perhaps the biggest issue people have with hotels occurs when the cache owner places restrictions or requirements on leaving and taking bugs which limits bug movement - the so called Travel Bug Prison. This situation you should seek to avoid, unless want to get an earful from your fellow geocachers. Quote Link to comment

501_Gang
It depends on the type of hotel owner you are planning on being. We have a TB Hotel near us that the owners makes sure the TB's do not sit long (a week, 2 at the most). They even take them on trips all across the Country. To us, this is acceptable. But then we have had one of our TB's sit in a hotel for 3 months. Now this is not acceptable to us. If we see a TB has sat in one of the caches we own for 2 weeks, we will go grab it and move it so it keeps moving. Edited September 7, 2005 by 501_Gang Quote Link to comment
Eric K
IMHO I think Travel Bug Hotels are not always being used or placed properly. 1. Please don't do that leave one, take one rule if you do. 2. I have noticed a lot of TB Hotels lately in remote areas. These IMO should be regular geocaches. I think a TB Hotel should be like most real hotels as far as having easy in/out access and near major highways/roads. Quote Link to comment
Eartha
Any cache is a good cache for a travel bug as long as it fits inside. Don't place it where it has a high chance of being muggled. Do read the threads linked, there is a lot of useful advice in there. Quote Link to comment
